Touch the old mark...

In the endless flow of history, antiques are not inanimate, inanimate material heritages but living pieces, reflecting the spirit, culture and identity of a nation. Collecting and displaying precious artifacts gives the public the opportunity to experience and explore the cultural and historical values left by our ancestors.

Contains the quintessence of national culture

From July to September, Da Nang Museum coordinated with 14 collectors from antique associations including Thang Long - Hanoi Antique Association, Dong Xua - Hai Duong Antique Association, Pho Hien - Hung Yen Antique Club, Ho Chi Minh City Antique Association and private collectors in the city to organize the exhibition "Da Nang - Echoes of the past".

This is the first exhibition held with the participation of many collectors from the three regions of North, Central and South with many unique artifacts. At the antique gallery of Da Nang Museum, many domestic and foreign tourists are very interested in admiring the beauty of rare antiques.

Present on the first day of the exhibition, Ms. Nguyen Thanh Hoa (Hai Chau ward) shared: “We feel like we are touching the past. Each antique contains a historical story from different periods, thereby helping us better understand the history of our ancestors' struggle to build the country and be proud of our national traditions.

In particular, there are unique privately owned antiques here that the museum did not have before. While the antiques in state museums have been exploited for their value for many years, the privately donated antiques are still very new to the public.

With more than 200 antiques dating from the 15th century to the Nguyen Dynasty, the thematic exhibition “Da Nang - Echoes of the past” introduces many types of antiques made from different materials.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuong (a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City) said: “The exhibition is like a trip back to the past. I really like the collections of gilded wooden furniture, mother-of-pearl inlays from the Nguyen Dynasty; the collection of Chu Dau ceramics from the 15th - 16th centuries; the collection of ceramics from the Le - Trinh period to the Nguyen Dynasty from the 17th - 20th centuries; the collection of enameled bronze (phap lam) from the Nguyen Dynasty; the collection of royal costumes and gold-thread embroidery from the Nguyen Dynasty...

These antiques carry special values as they reflect the development of society through the course of history.

According to Director of Da Nang Museum Huynh Dinh Quoc Thien, Vietnam is a country with a long history and unique cultures spread across the three regions of North - Central - South. Each region has different cultural nuances, rich, diverse but unified in the national cultural picture.

Those cultural features have been passed down for hundreds of years so that today's generation continues to preserve and promote them.

In that cultural treasure, we cannot ignore antiques - items that bear the traces of time and are considered as a bridge between the past and the present, as witnesses of a past period of the country.

Socialization of conservation activities

Within the framework of the exhibition program, Da Nang Museum received 96 antiques donated by 16 private collectors with diverse types of items from Ly - Tran dynasties pottery, Chu Dau pottery, Nguyen dynasty-style porcelain, enamelware, worship items and daily necessities of ancient Vietnamese people... after the People's Committee of Da Nang City issued a letter calling for donations of artifacts.

As one of the people who donated many antiques to Da Nang Museum this time, Mr. Tran Dinh Nam (Hung Yen) expressed: "When I learned that Da Nang city called for donations of antiques, I donated 3 precious artifacts to Da Nang Museum including a tea jar and a Hue enamel tea cup, along with a Dai Nam Long Tinh Ngu Hang. This is a meaningful thing to do and I am very happy to donate to the museum the valuable antiques I have collected."

Donating a 19th century bronze incense burner to the Da Nang Museum, collector Hoang Van Kim (Hanoi) also said: “We came here to join the Da Nang Museum in displaying antiques with the desire to help people and international friends have the opportunity to enjoy the cultural beauty of the antiques. I am very happy that the antiques donated by private individuals have attracted the attention and interest of many tourists.”

Talking about this exhibition, Mr. Huynh Dinh Quoc Thien said that collecting an artifact is difficult, collecting a collection is even more difficult, requiring each collector to spend effort, money, and time to search and research.

“We would like to sincerely thank the collectors who have closely and actively cooperated with the Da Nang Museum in the preparation and exhibition. This activity is also a message to organizations and individuals who are owners of artifacts to join hands to contribute to the socialization of activities to protect and promote the value of cultural heritage to serve the public's enjoyment needs,” Mr. Thien shared.
