Durian, which currently contributes about 40% of total export value, is recovering strongly thanks to large import demand from China.

Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports are gradually recovering after many months of sharp decline, with durian continuing to play the leading role as demand from the Chinese market increases.

According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vinafruit), in August 2025, fruit and vegetable exports are estimated to reach nearly 759 million USD, down 0.8% compared to the previous month.

However, in the first 8 months of the year, total export turnover reached nearly 4.63 billion USD, down only 2.1% compared to the same period last year. This is a positive signal compared to previous statistics, where the decrease was often up to double digits.

Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of Vinafruit, said this recovery was mainly due to the export of durian (including fresh and frozen), along with other key products such as fresh coconut, mango, banana, and passion fruit, all of which grew steadily.

It is forecasted that this year, fruit and vegetable exports could reach about 7.1 billion USD, equivalent to 2024. If the positive trend continues, the 8 billion USD mark is expected to be reached in 2026.

Durian, which currently accounts for about 40% of total export value, is recovering strongly thanks to high import demand from China. However, this market is increasingly tightening quality standards, causing the proportion of grade A and B durian eligible for export to decrease compared to before. At the same time, heavy rains have affected the productivity as well as the quality and appearance of durian.

Recorded on September 2, despite the holiday, many durian purchasing warehouses were still bustling with activity. The price of Dona durian type A was commonly at 78,000 - 82,000 VND/kg, type B was 58,000 - 64,000 VND/kg, an increase of about 2,000 VND/kg compared to last week.
