In 2024, the Hoang Dong Commune Party Committee had a policy to expand the inter-village road through Quang Trung village. Although it had been concreted many years before, after a long period of use, the road surface had cracked and seriously degraded, making it difficult for people to travel. Moreover, the road was located deep in the village, so it was narrow, with the road surface only about 2.5m wide.
According to the design, the inter-village road is about 300m long and will be upgraded and widened to about 5.5m to 6m, with a synchronous drainage system and trees. The estimated cost to build the road is about 700 million VND.
Originally a purely agricultural area, the main source of income for people in Quang Trung village almost entirely depends on farming, so in the past, mobilizing people to donate land and contribute money to expand roads was considered "unimaginable".
But what seemed impossible started with an ordinary person.
Without waiting for anyone to speak up, without needing anyone to call, Mr. Hanh was the first person to stand up and donate more than 100 square meters of land, voluntarily demolishing the fence and gate without a single request or a look of regret.
He even voluntarily spent nearly 360 million VND in cash - a large sum of money that is not easy for any farming family to save - to join hands with the people to upgrade the long-degraded road.
Mr. Hanh's example was like a "fire" in the hearts of the people of Quang Trung village, then it flared up into a common spirit. Those who had the means contributed money, those who had less means contributed labor and strength. Every household competed to donate land for the project. Everyone wanted to join hands, because everyone clearly saw that road construction was no longer the State's business, but the business of each individual.
Moreover, during the construction period, Mr. Hanh regularly visited the site, personally watered the road surface to maintain moisture for the concrete to solidify and develop strength, checked each section of soil and rock, and reminded the workers to be careful at each stage.
“Building roads is not just about spending money. Building roads is to make it easier for people to travel, to make our village more spacious and cleaner. I can contribute some money, but if I don’t pay attention, it will all be ruined,” Mr. Hanh shared.
The inter-village road in Quang Trung village, Hoang Dong commune (Hoang Hoa) has been upgraded to be spacious, clean, and convenient for people to travel.
Not only living a beautiful life in daily life, Mr. Hanh is also an active person in local emulation movements. Regardless of his age, he still regularly studies the Party's resolutions and directives, learns about the State's policies and laws to mobilize people in the village to implement them.
In particular, in 2024, he was honored to receive a Certificate of Merit from the Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoang Dong commune for his outstanding achievements in the emulation movement to build advanced new rural areas, Quang Trung model village; received a Certificate of Merit from the Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoang Hoa district for his outstanding achievements in the movement "All people protect national security".
Recently, he was honored to be commended and rewarded by the Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoang Hoa district as a typical example in studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style, period 2016-2025.
But for him, the most precious reward is not the certificates of merit. What he treasures most is not the glass frame or the praise, but the feeling of peace in his heart - knowing that he has lived without wasting a single day, without wasting a single thing.
“I always remember Uncle Ho's teaching: One hundred good speeches are not equal to one living example. It is not necessary to be a cadre or party member to be a role model; good citizens themselves can also learn and follow Uncle Ho. In work, always promoting a sense of responsibility, dynamism, creativity and contributing to the construction of the homeland is also a demonstration of patriotism and revolutionary spirit. I hope that everyone, no matter what job they do or what position they hold, can look at themselves in Uncle Ho's moral example to live more decently and responsibly every day. There is no need to do anything great, just live with integrity, think about the community, contribute a small part to the common good... then society will naturally improve, the homeland will change,” Mr. Hanh shared.
In addition to his great contributions to the community through each project and each specific action, Mr. Hanh also quietly performs another kind act, which is to care for the difficult lives in the place where he lives. For him, “living meaningfully” is not only about concrete projects, but also exists in every smile and shared gaze.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, a resident of Quang Trung village, emotionally shared: “My mother and I both have difficult circumstances, and Mr. Hanh has silently helped us for many years. Not only my family, but also many families in the village have received support from him. Sometimes it was a small amount of money to cover living expenses, and other times it was gifts that he and his family meticulously prepared."
It is from these silent actions that the village spirit in Quang Trung village is constantly nurtured. For the people here, Mr. Hanh is an example of learning and following Uncle Ho's way of life, full of love and responsibility to the community.
He may have never stood on stage to receive applause, never spoken in front of a crowd about his philosophy of life or noble things, but the people of Quang Trung village all understood that it was his silence that was the warm and spreading light. Because, a living example is always worth more than a hundred thousand words.
