Graduation project dramatization
Fashion Creation is an annual event organized by HSU for the past 13 years, aiming to create opportunities for students to express their passion and creativity. Not only stopping at the project defense, the collections also show modern design thinking, personal branding ability and methodical business strategy.
This year, 17 students introduced 17 collections with 62 carefully invested designs from ideas, sketches, costume modeling, product completion to marketing plans.
The topics are diverse: personal emotions, memories, urbanization, community safety, humanity, along with cultural and natural inspirations such as Hue rural market, Thien Hau Pagoda, Atlantis city, or the beauty of the desert and jungle... Some projects stand out with autobiographical elements, literary materials, cinema, and traditional art.
In his opening speech, MSc. Tran Minh Nhut, Director of the HSU Fashion Design program, emphasized: “The students have gone through a serious working process, from forming ideas, creating materials to building personal brands with specific business plans.”
Social messages and personal identity
The collection “Saigon Shock” by student Pham Trong Hieu won the championship, making a strong impression thanks to its inspiration from familiar but potentially risky images in urban areas such as tangled electric wires, forgotten signs or flyers posted everywhere.
The collection uses black, gray, orange and yellow tones, focusing on form-making techniques and material processing, sending a message about a safe and civilized living environment.
Second prize went to the collection “Emotional Cycle” by Tran Thi Nhu Quynh, which explores the cycle of human emotions through a blend of classic and modern shapes, and a color palette that ranges from bright to calm. The collection conveys the message: emotions are not obstacles, but a driving force for rebirth and harmony with oneself.
Third Prize was awarded to “Silk Painting” by Nhan Thi Lan, inspired by the image of silkworms spinning silk in Ha Dong silk village. The collection combines 2D and 3D shaping techniques with a luxurious and sophisticated spirit, reflecting the author’s persistent and passionate journey, who started her own business before returning to school.
It is known that after many years of starting a business with the Pattern Design and Fashion Sewing Training Center, Nhan Thi Lan chose to return to the classroom to officially study design.
Designer Le Thanh Hoa commented: “This year’s collections demonstrate abundant creativity, exploiting a variety of themes from culture, tradition to contemporary issues. HSU students have shown their ability to handle materials, patterns well and have a contemporary design mindset, opening up expectations for a new generation of designers for Vietnamese fashion.”
According to the organizers, before the show, students must fully defend their graduation portfolios before a panel of experienced designers and lecturers. The portfolios include research ideas, creative inspiration boards, drawings, materials, finished products, images, videos and a marketing plan for the collection.
The HSU Fashion Design program focuses on comprehensive training, combining design skills with management, business, and marketing, helping students develop their personal brand and be ready to enter the market immediately after graduation.
In 2013, HSU was the first private school in Ho Chi Minh City to incorporate the European fashion show model into the graduation project of the Fashion Design major. This activity has become its own “brand”, contributing to bringing design students closer to the public and the market.
