In her opening remarks, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Sports Administration Le Thi Hoang Yen emphasized Vietnam’s increasingly prominent role in ASEAN sports cooperation, especially ahead of the summits in October. She said Vietnam is actively participating in regional gender equality projects, notably a Japan-funded initiative to increase the participation of women and girls in sports.
Ms. Yen affirmed that the gender gap in sports has been significantly narrowed thanks to the efforts of the industry and authorities at all levels. The images of outstanding female athletes are contributing to changing social awareness, shaping the role of women in the modern era.
She hopes the discussion will be a substantive forum for delegates to propose specific initiatives, contributing to the completion of policies to support women in sports from grassroots to professional levels.
The event brought together a series of prominent faces, providing in-depth perspectives, reflecting on the role, potential and barriers that women in the sports field are facing.

However, thanks to perseverance and support from her family and coach, she came back strong. "Sports did not take away my femininity. On the contrary, it was my muscles, endurance and discipline that made me more confident and stronger in myself," Oanh shared. She also pointed out the social prejudices that female athletes face: "Many people think that girls should not train hard or compete fiercely and many other issues. But we have proven the opposite."
The athlete born in 1995 expressed her hope: "Today's discussion is an opportunity for all of us to speak up, make recommendations and promote a fairer and more professional sports environment for Vietnamese women - from the grassroots movement to international arenas."
