Samsung will soon deploy PHOLED screens to smartphones

According to Android Authority , PHOLED panels are said to significantly reduce power consumption compared to OLEDs used today. Samsung currently implements green and red light-emitting subpixels, but the blue diodes still use fluorescent materials. The new light-emitting diodes are said to offer 100% internal light-emitting efficiency compared to 25% on fluorescent materials.

Despite the limitations, Samsung still wants to be the leader in PHOLED display technology

Analysts had predicted that PHOLED panels would be applied to the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 next year, however, The Elec said that there were delays in the development process that will only allow Samsung to use them in 2025. That means people could see these new, more power-efficient OLED panels on Samsung's foldable smartphones in the next two years.

Samsung’s plan to be the first to develop PHOLEDs now appears to have hit a major snag, with the lifespan of panels using current light-emitting materials only being 55% that of OLEDs using fluorescent materials, which is why some display experts believe the new material may not become mainstream.

Despite the difficulties, Samsung plans to continue developing PHOLEDs with the aim of becoming the first company in the industry to mass produce them and be able to secure a market advantage for the future, which is also how the Korean company has achieved in the current mobile OLED display market.
