After starting their 2025 FIFA Club World Cup campaign with a 2-1 win over Pachuca, Salzburg were held to a 0-0 draw by Al-Hilal. While four points was a huge success for Salzburg, it was not enough to secure a place in the round of 16.
To ensure their place in the next round, Salzburg must defeat the "giant" Real Madrid in the final match of Group H. In case Salzburg draws or loses, they must "pray" that Al Hilal cannot beat Pachuca (who has been officially eliminated) in the match at the same time. It can be said that Salzburg's door to the next round is quite narrow. According to statistics in the 24 previous encounters with Real Madrid, they only won 5 and lost 15.
