On August 10, the Department of Education and Training of Quang Tri province said that the Provincial People's Committee has just reported on the proposed plan and investment portfolio for building schools for border communes in Quang Tri province.

Accordingly, Quang Tri province proposed to build 10 new primary and secondary schools; upgrade, renovate and expand 6 secondary schools or ethnic boarding schools into primary and secondary schools in 15 border communes, ensuring each commune has 1 school.

The invested schools have adequate facilities, meeting school standards, helping students to study and live in a complete and spacious environment, creating favorable conditions for teachers to work long-term.

Accordingly, Quang Tri province plans to build a new school in Huong Phung commune in 2025.

Huong Phung Primary and Secondary Boarding School has 60 classes and 2,100 students. The minimum area for building the school is about 95,000m2.

After completion, the school plans to mobilize all students from the above 4 schools in the area: Huong Phung Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, Huong Phung Primary School, Huong Son Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, Huong Linh Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities.

The construction items that need investment include 60 classrooms, 18 subject classrooms, library, administrative area, kitchen, dormitory for students, official house for teachers, playground, practice ground, swimming pool, mini soccer field, multi-purpose house, etc.

The total investment for this project is about 335 billion VND (Phase 1 proposed 250 billion VND).

After the merger, Quang Tri province has 16 border communes, with 57 general schools; of which, there are 17 semi-boarding ethnic minority schools and 1 boarding ethnic minority school (junior high school level).

Most schools in border areas are located in mountainous areas with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions, areas with a large ethnic minority population and sparse population.

Most schools have many campuses, but lack subject classrooms, auxiliary rooms, learning support rooms, playgrounds, and sports areas; some schools are using temporary classrooms, borrowed classrooms, and degraded classrooms that do not ensure the organization of educational activities; technical infrastructure still has many limitations.

The investment in building boarding schools, primary and secondary schools in border communes aims to synchronize the Party and State's directions and concerns for students in disadvantaged areas. It ensures equal rights to education and improves the quality of comprehensive education.

At the same time, narrow the regional gap and ensure adequate facilities for studying, living and boarding for high school students in remote, isolated and border areas.

According to the Provincial People's Committee, the total investment capital demand for primary and secondary schools in border communes is about 3,338 billion VND, of which the central budget is about 90%, the local budget and other legal sources are about 10%.
