In recent days, in Quang Bi commune, despite the rain, the atmosphere of gratitude still took place solemnly and warmly. At 5 martyrs' cemeteries in the area, youth union members in green volunteer shirts and militiamen urgently completed the work of picking grass, sweeping white, and planting the national flag in front of the graves of heroic martyrs. The tasks were small, but carried out with respect and a high sense of responsibility.

Speaking to reporters, Vice Chairwoman of Quang Bi Commune People's Committee To Thi Dao shared: "We believe that taking care of people with meritorious services is not only a responsibility but also a command from the heart. The small but meaningful tasks on this occasion help today's generation understand, remember and be grateful to the previous generation."

In fact, since July 21, Quang Bi commune has implemented many "Repaying gratitude" activities such as: Medical examination, health consultation and free medicine distribution for more than 200 meritorious people at 4 examination points in the area. Associations, unions and enterprises have organized visits and presented 50 gifts to war invalids, sick soldiers and relatives of martyrs; of which the commune youth union presented 22 gifts and organized "Meals of gratitude" at 3 typical policy families. Cadres, party members and people in the commune have supported the 2025 Gratitude Fund with nearly 200 million VND and this meaningful activity is still being implemented at the grassroots level.

The commune is actively assigning departments to carefully prepare for the conference to meet and present gifts to 186 policy beneficiaries and meritorious people in the area on the morning of July 26. At the same time, the preparation work for the candle lighting ceremony in gratitude on the evening of July 26 is also being actively implemented by the commune's Youth Union. Not only is it a memorial ritual, this is also an activity for the younger generation to live in a sacred atmosphere, to bow their heads in remembrance and stand up to continue. The commune leaders have established 5 delegations to offer incense and attend the candle lighting ceremony in gratitude at 5 cemeteries of the commune.

Secretary of the Youth Union of Quang Bi Commune Nguyen Thi Hai Yen shared: “We, the young generation, will never forget the blood and bones of our heroic martyrs. The upcoming candle of gratitude is not only a light of remembrance, but also a reminder of our responsibility - to continue the ideals and live up to the sacrifices of our fathers and brothers.”

Along with gratitude activities, Quang Bi commune pays special attention to fully and promptly implementing preferential policies for people with meritorious services. According to comrade To Thi Dao, as of the end of June 2025, the commune is managing and paying monthly allowances to 653 people with meritorious services with a total budget of nearly 2 billion VND/month. In the past year, the commune has also implemented a nursing regime for 434 cases, supported visits to martyrs' graves, paid funeral allowances, issued and changed documents and health insurance cards in accordance with regulations.

From the socialized fund and community mobilization, the government and organizations have presented more than 226 gifts to meritorious people and martyrs' relatives in difficult circumstances, worth more than 108 million VND. Of which, the Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune presented 30 gifts in cash and kind. Other associations and organizations coordinated to present more than 70 gifts. On this occasion, the commune also organized a meeting and presented gifts to 186 outstanding meritorious people.

In particular, the locality is speeding up the construction and repair of 28 houses for people with meritorious services and relatives of martyrs, of which 16 houses are newly built and 12 houses are repaired under the support project of Hanoi city. Thanks to that, up to now, the commune no longer has households with meritorious services that are poor or near-poor, 100% of households have a stable standard of living, equal to or higher than the average level of their place of residence.

Identifying the work of “Repaying gratitude” as a regular and long-term task, Quang Bi commune continues to widely propagate in the community, especially to the young generation, about the moral value of “When drinking water, remember its source”. Along with replicating good economic models in policy families, the commune will increase the recognition and honor of typical collectives and individuals who do a good job of gratitude.

With a methodical and meaningful approach, while promoting the role of the entire political system, Quang Bi commune is gradually improving the quality of life for people with meritorious services, strongly spreading profound human values from gratitude activities, not only on anniversaries, but also becoming a regular cultural practice in community life.
