On August 27, at Bellevue Palace - the German Presidential Palace in Berlin, Vietnamese Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, Nguyen Dac Thanh, presented the Letter of Credence of President Luong Cuong to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
The presentation of credentials took place with solemn and respectful traditional reception ceremony, less than a month after Ambassador Nguyen Dac Thanh and his wife Truong Thu Huong arrived in Germany.
At the reception following the presentation of credentials, President Steinmeier congratulated Ambassador Nguyen Dac Thanh on his appointment as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Germany.
The President respectfully thanked General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, and leaders of the Government and National Assembly of Vietnam for their greetings and best wishes to him and his wife. He also sent his warmest congratulations to the leaders of the Party, State and people of Vietnam on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day.
Ambassador Nguyen Dac Thanh also respectfully asked the President to convey Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh 's congratulations to German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz on the initial successes his coalition government has achieved after the first 100 days in power.
President Steinmeier affirmed that he was very impressed with the thoughtful and warm welcome of the leaders of the Party and Government of Vietnam during his official visit to Vietnam in January 2024. He also expressed his delight at the good results of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of economy, trade, investment, defense, education, health care, and labor cooperation.
On this occasion, Ambassador Nguyen Dac Thanh expressed his sincere thanks to the Government and people of Germany, especially the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for effectively supporting the activities of the Vietnamese Embassy in Berlin as well as the Vietnamese community living, working and studying in Germany.
He also hopes that the President will pay attention, support and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to continue to deeply integrate, succeed and make positive contributions to German society, becoming an important bridge between the two countries.
The Ambassador also said that the German Festival (Deustchlandfest) is expected to be held in the Hoan Kiem Lake area, the center of Hanoi capital, next October and that Vietnam welcomes visits by leaders of the Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and localities of Germany to Vietnam.

President Steinmeier agreed that the two sides should continue to exchange high-level delegations, first of all, high-level delegations from the Federal Government and local authorities to Vietnam to attend activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He also suggested that the two sides continue to coordinate closely to implement the agreed high-level delegation exchange plan in 2025.
Ambassador Nguyen Dac Thanh once again affirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to its relations with the Federal Republic of Germany and that he personally will strive to foster friendship between the governments and people of the two countries during his term.
Besides, the Ambassador said that Vietnam also highly values the Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation relationship with the European Union (EU).
As the economic and political center of the EU, and at the same time leading in shaping policies and promoting regional cooperation, the Ambassador suggested that Germany continue to pay attention, promptly approve processes and procedures, and complete the ratification process of the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) to create new momentum for bilateral trade and investment cooperation; and have a voice urging the European Commission (EC) to soon remove the IUU "yellow card" for Vietnamese seafood.
The Ambassador also expressed his hope that the two countries will continue to effectively implement the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese goods, especially agricultural products, to enter the German market; and strengthen coordination and mutual support in international forums, such as the United Nations and ASEAN-EU./.
