The film opens with a familiar conflict: Wolfoo's father, Mr. Wulfen, is so engrossed in his work that he forgets about the race his son is participating in. Wolfoo has a chance to win first place, but disappointed when his father doesn't come to cheer him on, he slows down and quietly watches his friends cross the finish line in the arms of their families. As for Mr. Wulfen, when he realizes it's past time, he just clicks his tongue, kids will forget quickly, and plans to make up for it with some cool ice cream. But what Wolfoo needs isn't snacks, but a father who keeps his word, knows how to care and encourage instead of making promises and then forgetting. The boy also feels sad when he sees that both his parents seem to always pamper his younger sister more - because she's still young.
The problems raised in Wolfoo and the Three Realms Race are not unfamiliar. They can be found in any family. Parents often have thousands of reasons to be busy, especially pressure from work. And that is not always understood by their children. From the perspective of adults, children's demands sometimes become annoying. It is this disparity that causes small cracks to gradually become large gaps. In the film, the egos of both Wolfoo and his father prevent them from winning the races completely, even falling into danger many times despite having more than enough ability and opportunity. From there, frustration, blame, anger... arise one after another.
Watching the movie, the audience, from parents to children, can see themselves in each character and suddenly realize that they were once like that. The journey of father and son Wulfen - Wolfoo in the reluctant race is an opportunity for everyone to realize their mistakes, correct their mistakes and understand. The movie ends with a happy ending as expected, but the deeper meaning lies in the journey of companionship and sympathy between father and son Wulfen - Wolfoo.
Wolfoo and the Three Realms Race is not necessarily a perfect work, because the film still has absurd details and technical limitations of a 2D animation. However, perhaps the meaningful message the film brings will be what lingers longer with the audience.
