Developing large-scale livestock farming reduces greenhouse gas emissions and adapts to climate change

BTO-On August 29, in Phan Thiet City, the National Agricultural Extension Center coordinated with the Binh Thuan Agricultural Extension Center to organize a seminar on "Solutions for developing large-scale livestock farming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change in Binh Thuan Province". Attending were leaders of the National Agricultural Extension Office in the Southern region; the Southern Animal Husbandry Institute, along with leaders of relevant departments, branches, and sectors, People's Committees of districts, towns, and cities; cooperatives, and typical livestock farming households in the province.

Speaking at the seminar, Mr. Ngo Thai Son - Deputy Director in charge of the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center said that climate change has caused many impacts in the world. In which, Vietnam is one of the countries that suffers many impacts, causing extreme weather, including agricultural production.

In Binh Thuan, according to the livestock development plan in the province for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2045, Binh Thuan province focuses on building, guiding and supervising the implementation of livestock development associated with product consumption markets; improving productivity, quality, reducing costs and deep processing of livestock products to increase competitiveness and expand the market. At the same time, continue to develop industrial and semi-industrial livestock farms with disease and environmental safety control, adapting to climate change...

At the seminar, delegates listened to experts and managers report on the implementation of the livestock development plan of Binh Thuan province in 2024, the plan and solutions for livestock development in 2025. Including solutions for developing large livestock farming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change. At the same time, some models and techniques for large livestock farming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the province were introduced.

The seminar also focused on discussing issues of support policies, difficulties in developing agriculture associated with emission reduction. Training, information and propaganda, rights and responsibilities of participants; solutions to promote agricultural development associated with climate change. Management agencies, research agencies, agricultural extension officers and cooperatives and livestock households attending shared experiences, discussed and proposed solutions to develop large-scale livestock farming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change in the coming time. Thereby, cooperatives and livestock households in the province raised awareness of livestock farming, integrated multi-value, increased economic value, and at the same time created new safe products and sustainable development.
