"Karoline Leavitt did an extraordinary job as national press secretary during my historic campaign, and I am pleased to announce that she will serve as White House press secretary," President-elect Donald Trump announced in a statement on the evening of November 15.

"Karoline is smart, tough, and has proven herself to be an extremely effective communicator. I have every confidence that she will excel in the White House press secretary role and help deliver our message to the American people as we 'Make America Great Again,'" Mr. Trump emphasized.

Leavitt, 27, a native of New Hampshire, is a spokesperson for Mr. Trump’s presidential campaign this year. Leavitt also served as assistant press secretary at the White House during Mr. Trump’s first term.

Leavitt joined Trump's team after graduating with a bachelor's degree in politics and communications from Saint Anselm College. At the White House, Leavitt served as a presidential staff writer and assistant press secretary.

Leavitt will be the youngest person to serve as White House spokeswoman. Before joining Trump’s campaign this year, Leavitt served as a top aide to Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, who was President-elect Trump’s pick to be the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

In 2022, Leavitt ran for Congress in New Hampshire and won the Republican primary at the age of 25, but lost to the Democratic candidate.

With President-elect Trump’s pick, Leavitt will take on one of the most prominent jobs in the new administration. Previous members of the White House press office during President Trump’s first term have gone on to become prominent figures in politics and media.

President Trump's first-term press secretaries, including Kayleigh McEnany, Stephanie Grisham, Sarah Sanders and Sean Spicer, played key roles in the White House's communications strategy under Trump.

More than a week after his re-election, US President-elect Donald Trump is gradually finalizing the personnel for the future government apparatus that will come into operation from January 20, 2025. One thing that most of the personnel candidates have in common is that they are young and steadfast in Mr. Trump's "America First" principle.
