In a video that went viral on social media, Onana appeared radiant, dancing and running around the ground with his childhood friends in his hometown. Despite it being a fun friendly match, his ball handling skills excited many Manchester United fans, to the point that they started joking that he should try his hand at the striker position instead of keeping goal.
“He’s better than Rasmus Hojlund,” one fan joked, referring to the Danish striker’s underwhelming performances last season. Another quipped: “Even my friends don’t want Onana in goal anymore.”

Onana’s 2024/25 season has not gone as well as expected. He has made a series of mistakes in many matches, especially in the Europa League final against Tottenham, which has made him the focus of criticism. In that context, Onana’s future at Man Utd is a big question mark. There are rumors that AS Monaco are interested in the former Inter star, but Onana is said to be steadfast in his desire to stay and succeed at Old Trafford.
However, manager Ruben Amorim is said to be looking for an alternative or at least a competitive option. Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez is a target, but the World Cup winner's high wages make a move difficult unless United sell Onana.
