
According to information from his family, People's Artist Pham Quang Vinh passed away early on the morning of June 12 due to old age, at the age of 81. He had 50 years of service to the country's film and television industry, and was known as a set designer and art designer for many classic Vietnamese films.
Painter Pham Quang Vinh was born on August 15, 1944 in Tu Liem, Hanoi . He is one of eight children of painter Pham Hau - the first generation of lecturers at the University of Industrial Fine Arts.
From 1962 to 1965, Pham Quang Vinh attended a film design training course taught by experts from the Soviet Union at the Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema. In 1964, he joined the Vietnam Feature Film Studio as an assistant artist.
Since 1967, he has been working as an art designer. The artist has received 4 individual awards (Best Art Design Award) at the Vietnam Film Festival in 1988 (film "Hoang Hoa Tham" ) and the Kite Award in 2005 ( "Neighbors" and "Tieng gong dinh menh" ), 2007 (film "Hanoi, Hanoi" ) and 2013 (film "Cold Summer" ).
Some of the films by Pham Quang Vinh as an artist have also received domestic and international awards such as "The Road to Mother's Home" - the jury award at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival - Czechoslovakia, the best film award at the New Dehli International Film Festival - India, and the 2nd Vietnam Film Festival.
Notably, "Flapping in the Middle of Nowhere" by Nguyen Hoang Diep received awards for best film/most notable film at the Three Continents Film Festival (France), Fribourg International Film Festival (Switzerland) and Hanoi International Film Festival.
Many films known to the audience such as “The Frontline Calls,” “The Wharf Without a Husband,” “Fairy Tales for 17-Year-Olds,” “Waves at the Bottom of the River,” “Pao’s Story,” or “Grand Tutor Tran Thu Do”... received the highest awards for their works at the Lotus and Kite Awards, all of which were designed by Pham Quang Vinh.
Artist Pham Quang Vinh was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist in 1993 and People's Artist in 2007. He is also the first film designer to be honored by the Vietnam Film Institute, at the special film screening program "The person who gives soul to cinema works."
His wife is actress Meritorious Artist Pham Dieu Thuan, famous for the films "Nguoi Ha Noi," "Mua la roi" and "Nhung nong can den dem" (Candles in the Night) . They have two children who are both in the arts.
The funeral for People's Artist Pham Quang Vinh will be held from 7:30 to 9:00 on Monday, June 16 at the Funeral Home of the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Hospital, followed by burial at Van Dien Cemetery, Hanoi./.
