At the scene of the incident, Ms. T.'s husband quickly found a way to pull her out of the tractor and took her to the emergency room. On the way to Xuyen A General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. T. was almost exhausted due to the pain and excessive blood loss.
Upon receiving Ms. T., the doctors of the Emergency Department promptly treated the wound and performed resuscitation, and performed a full-body CT scan. The results showed that Ms. T. had an unstable pelvic fracture, a spinal fracture, a right femur fracture, and a left arm fracture.
The Emergency Department doctors urgently consulted with the Microsurgical Orthopedic Department doctors and quickly transferred the patient to the operating room to promptly treat the injury.

On July 5, specialist doctor Nguyen Phuoc Loc, Department of Microsurgical Orthopedics, Xuyen A General Hospital, said that the emergency surgery took place within 45 minutes. Doctors temporarily fixed the pelvis and femur, sutured the patient to reduce blood loss, and resuscitated the patient.
"We transfused 6 units of blood and 2 units of fresh plasma (equivalent to 2.6 liters of blood and plasma), and vital signs were continuously monitored closely every minute. After the patient's health stabilized, we performed a second surgery to fix the broken bone and fuse the bone," Dr. Loc shared.
According to Dr. Loc, most cases of being crushed by a tractor are fatal, but fortunately, patient T. was discovered immediately and quickly taken to the emergency room.
“The patient suffered from an unstable pelvic fracture and a femur fracture, which is a difficult case to treat. Especially during the moving process, the patient can easily cause the pelvic bone to dislocate and lose a lot of blood, so it is necessary to be very meticulous and persistent. If not treated promptly, the patient will go into hemorrhagic shock and face the risk of death," said Dr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc.
Broken bones need to be fixed.
Currently, after 10 days of intensive treatment, the patient's health is gradually recovering and is being monitored and cared for at the Department of Microsurgical Orthopedics. In the coming time, the patient will be guided by technicians from the Department of Traditional Medicine and Rehabilitation to practice physical therapy to restore motor function.
Doctor Nguyen Phuoc Loc also advised people that if they are unfortunately crushed by a tractor or a traffic accident with suspected broken bones, they should immobilize the broken bones and try to move the patient gently away from the scene, avoiding using force to dislocate the broken bone. Then quickly call an ambulance or take the patient to the nearest medical facility for timely treatment, avoiding the patient falling into a situation where they die from shock and blood loss.
