The story of Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Van from Gia Lai makes everyone admire, especially her admirable wealth of experiences at the age of 60. The Central Highlands woman conquered 39 difficult mountains of Vietnam along with a journey through three Indochinese countries.

For people in their 60s, climbing mountains, jogging or participating in adventurous experiences such as motorbike trips are not something many people can do. But over the past 5 years, Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Van has made many trips across Vietnam by motorbike, through three Indochinese countries, conquering 39 of the highest peaks in the Northwest, Central Highlands, and South Central regions; especially the journey to climb the Five Great Mountains and Four Great Passes in 2022. In early March, she also returned from conquering new peaks in Son La and Ha Giang and won first prize in the 15km distance for people over 50 years old.

Talking about her journey to conquer the mountain peaks, Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Van said: "Every time I climb near the top of the mountain, I feel very tired, I tell myself that this is probably the last time. But when I reach the top, it's like there is a power in my body. When I reach the top, take pictures and see the scenery, and interact with friends, I want to climb again."

After retiring, Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Van started her backpacking trips. When she saw her friends posting pictures of beautiful mountain peaks, she decided to conquer them. The first one she conquered was Ta Xua and in fact, this journey made Ms. Bich Van realize that she had to practice if she wanted to continue this passion.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Van will practice running 21km about 3 times/week. The usual training distance is 10km. "You can't climb mountains as an amateur" - Ms. Bich Van said - "If I talk about my training, many people will laugh. I go up and down the busy bridge. Second, I get drenched in the rain to endure the cold".

The journey to conquer the mountains gives Nguyen Thi Bich Van health, confidence and the opportunity to connect and interact with friends who share the same passion. "It creates a healthy spirit in me, creating a lifestyle that I love and enjoy," said Bich Van.
