Nghe An has three more national intangible cultural heritages

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has just announced that Nghe An has three more national intangible cultural heritages, namely: Thai script in Nghe An, Thunder welcoming ceremony of the O Du people and Yen Thanh sacrificial drum art, bringing the total number of heritages of Nghe An to 14.

On June 27, 2025, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism signed Decisions No. 2190/QD-BVHTTDL, 2191/QD-BVHTTDL and 2192/QD-BVHTTDL on promulgating the List of national intangible cultural heritage.

According to the above decisions, the spoken and written languages ​​"Thai script in Nghe An , Thai Hoa town, Nghia Dan district, Quy Hop district, Quy Chau district, Que Phong district, Tan Ky district, Anh Son district, Con Cuong district, Tuong Duong district, Ky Son district, Nghe An province"; Social customs and beliefs "Thunder welcoming ceremony of the O Du people in Nga My commune, Tuong Duong district, Nghe An province"; Folk performing arts "Yen Thanh sacrificial drum art, Yen Thanh district, Nghe An province"... are included in the List of national intangible cultural heritage.

Previously, on June 3, 2025, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism also signed Decision No. 1657/QD-BVHTTDL to include the brocade weaving craft of the Thai people in Nghe An province in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage, under the category of Traditional Crafts.

The recognition of the brocade weaving craft of the Thai people in Nghe An; Thai script in Nghe An; Thunder welcoming ceremony of the O Du people in Nga My commune, Tuong Duong district; Yen Thanh sacrificial drum art... as national intangible cultural heritage aims to recognize the special value in terms of history, humanity and art, contributing to enriching the traditional cultural treasure of Nghe An, while affirming the regional cultural identity in the diverse picture of Vietnamese culture.

Recognizing these heritages also creates conditions for preserving and promoting handicrafts associated with tourism development and local socio-economy in the new period.

With three newly recognized heritages, Nghe An has a total of 14 national intangible cultural heritages. Among them, Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam folk songs were recognized by UNESCO as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity in November 2014.

Other heritages include: Brocade weaving of the Thai people; Yen Luong temple festival; decade of rituals of the Nguyen Canh family; Child temple festival; Through temple festival; Chin Gian festival temple; Bach Ma festival temple; Thanh Liet festival temple; Ong Hoang Muoi temple festival; Xang Khan ritual of the Thai people in western Nghe An; thunder welcoming ceremony of the O Du people; Yen Thanh sacrificial drum art and Thai script in Nghe An.
