The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the US shot down four drones aimed at a US destroyer in the southern Red Sea, launched from areas controlled by Houthi forces in Yemen.

“These are the 14th and 15th attacks on commercial shipping by the Houthi forces since October 17,” a CENTCOM post on the X social network said. In addition, CENTCOM also said that two Houthi ballistic missiles “were fired at international shipping lanes in the southern Red Sea. No ships were affected by the missile launches.”

Earlier, the British Maritime Trade Control Agency said that a drone exploded near a ship in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, more than 83km southwest of Yemen's Saleef port.

The Houthis have disrupted global trade for weeks by attacking ships passing through the Bab al-Mandab Strait in the southern Red Sea, claiming it was in response to Israel’s offensive on the Gaza Strip. The US recently launched Operation Prosperous Guardian to protect commercial vessels passing through the Red Sea and the Suez Canal from Houthi attacks, and said more than 20 countries have agreed to join the operation.
