The calcium worm farming model is being applied by many households in Xuan Quang. The farming technique is simple, the initial investment cost is low. Calcium worms are a source of food rich in protein and calcium, helping poultry grow quickly, healthily, and reduce dependence on industrial feed.

Mr. Then Van Trong, Coc Tun 2 village, said he has been using old foam boxes to raise calcium worms for the past three years.

“Raising calcium worms is very easy. Feeding is also simple. You can make use of leftover food and livestock waste. 10 grams of worms eggs produce 20 kg of finished worms,” Mr. Trong shared.

Thanks to the addition of calcium to the diet, Mr. Trong's chickens have grown better, have higher resistance, and significantly reduce the cost of industrial feed. Income has also increased.

Mr. Tai A Lai, from the same village, is also a pioneer household participating in the model.

“Previously, when I fed laying hens corn mixed with rice bran, the laying rate was only about 50%. After feeding them calcium worms, the laying rate increased to 70%. The income from selling eggs is more obvious.

The process of raising calcium worms does not require high technology. People only need foam boxes, plastic buckets, and pots to incubate and raise worms. Larvae eggs incubated for about two weeks will develop into finished worms, and production will increase rapidly.

Food sources for worms are readily available such as livestock waste, corn residue, bran, and vegetable waste. This not only helps save costs but also reduces the amount of waste released into the environment. Calcium worms have the ability to quickly process organic waste, reduce odors and limit pollution. This is considered an important direction to solve environmental problems in small-scale livestock farming in rural areas.

Currently, Xuan Quang commune is actively expanding the model. From the initial 20 households participating in the trial, the commune continues to support many new households. People are trained and guided on techniques from seedling incubation, care, harvesting to preservation.

According to agricultural experts, raising calcium worms is a solution to promote circular livestock farming. A source of food rich in protein and calcium helps livestock grow well, reducing dependence on industrial feed. At the same time, livestock waste is treated cleanly, limiting soil, water and air pollution. Calcium worms can also be used as raw materials to produce industrial animal feed, bio-oil, and organic fertilizer. When developed on a large scale, this model can create more local jobs and expand the market through cooperatives and cooperative groups.

The leader of Xuan Quang commune said that the locality is aiming to build a specialized calcium production area combined with large-scale poultry farming. The goal is to proactively source local animal feed, increase the value of the livestock industry, ensure stable income for farmers and protect the rural environment.

The calcium worm farming model not only brings economic efficiency to people but is also suitable for the orientation of clean, circular and sustainable agricultural development in the new period.
