“This is a coordination meeting,” Mexican President Sheinbaum said at a regular press conference on March 25, adding that the US secretary of state would be welcomed at around 1 p.m. on March 28 in Mexico.

Several Mexican ministers are also expected to attend the meeting, including Interior Minister Rosa Icela Rodriguez, Security Minister Omar Garcia Harfuch and Foreign Minister Juan Ramon de la Fuente.

“We are not giving a report to Secretary Noem, but it is important that she knows the results of the security cabinet ,” Sheinbaum added.

The upcoming discussions will be a follow-up to agreements reached during a previous meeting in Washington, DC, between Mexican officials - including the secretaries of navy, defense, foreign affairs and attorney general - and their US counterparts, Xinhua said.

The Mexican president also stressed that the upcoming meeting has nothing to do with tariffs or the April 2 deadline set by US President Donald Trump .

Regarding tariff issues, the Mexican government said it is currently negotiating with the US to eliminate or reduce the 25% tariff on Mexican products that is expected to take effect in April.

“We are working with businesses across a range of sectors to gather information, and based on that information that is expected to be released on April 2, we will also announce the necessary measures on April 3,” Ms. Sheinbaum told reporters.
