The traditional festival commemorating the 290th anniversary of the death of the founding father Mac Cuu (1735-2025) is an opportunity for the people of Ha Tien city and visitors from inside and outside the province to express their deep gratitude, remember and review the biography and merits of the Governor of Ha Tien in particular and the Mac family in general, demonstrating the morality of remembering the source of water when drinking water for the ancestors who had the merit of opening and building the ancient Ha Tien Town.
The opening art program of the festival with the theme "The Merits of Ancestors", the 290th anniversary of the death of the founding father Mac Cuu will recreate the land of Ha Tien with its beautiful natural landscape, unique cultural nuances and heroic historical traditions to depict the great contributions of Mac Cuu in the process of reclaiming this land.
Over three centuries have passed, many historical and cultural events have taken place in Ha Tien, but the contributions of our ancestors, those who have contributed to the development of this land, are forever respected and honored by generations. These historical and cultural values are also important provisions for Ha Tien to reach new heights, as the ancestors' wishes were placed in the name of the beloved land of Ha Tien.
Ha Tien, the land at the end of the Southwest of Vietnam, is always associated with the life and career of Mr. Mac Cuu. His name is always associated with the history of the formation and development of Ha Tien. He was born in 1655 and died in 1735. He was of Chinese origin. His hometown is Loi Chau district, Guangdong province, China.
In 1680, he led a group of Chinese immigrants to a boat and then to a faraway land in the South to find a place to settle down. Mac Cuu arrived in the land of Ha Tien. In August of the year Mau Ty 1708, Mac Cuu had someone write a memorial to buy gifts and sent his subordinates to Thuan Hoa to present offerings and ask to become Ha Tien chief and offer this land to Dai Viet. Lord Nguyen Phuc Chu approved and appointed Mac Cuu to hold the position of General of Ha Tien town, with the title of Cu Ngoc Hau; officially changing the name of this land to Ha Tien town.
In 1735, Mac Cuu fell ill and passed away. He was posthumously awarded the title “Khai Tran Thuong Tru Quoc - Dai Tuong Quan Vu Nghi Cong” by Lord Nguyen. From then on, Mac Thien Tich, the eldest son of Mac Cuu, was allowed by Lord Nguyen to succeed his father's career and hold the position of General of the Ha Tien town.
On this occasion, the Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee presented the decision approving the urban development program of the city and Ha Tien Border Gate Economic Zone until 2040. The Chairman of Ha Tien City People's Committee presented certificates of merit to 2 collectives with outstanding achievements in consulting on the city's urban development program.
