Duong Bridge is under repair and has a load limit sign, allowing only vehicles under 13 tons to pass. However, overloaded vehicles still pass by every day, threatening to cause the bridge to collapse.

On November 18 and 19, the joint inspection team of the Long Bien District Traffic Police Team, Traffic Police Team No. 5 (Traffic Police Department) and Gia Lam District set up checkpoints at both ends of Duong Bridge and handled many violations.

The interdisciplinary working group proceeded to issue fines to both the owner and driver of trucks with license plates 29C-553.69 and 29H-698.51 for exceeding the permitted weight by 10-20%. These trucks were also 10-30% overloaded.

Major Tran Nhu Thanh, representative of Traffic Police Team No. 5, said that in the face of overloaded vehicles passing through the bridge, the unit has arranged forces to coordinate with the Department of Transport Inspectorate to handle violations of traffic safety as well as overloaded vehicles passing through Duong Bridge. The main violations are overloading the limit by 13 tons and exceeding the height by 3.2 meters.

Mr. Tran Nhat Quang - Chief Inspector of Hanoi Department of Transport said that to ensure traffic safety through Duong Bridge, this agency assigned the Traffic Inspection Team of Long Bien District, Gia Lam District and units such as Road Bridge, Road to coordinate with Ha Hai Railway Joint Stock Company to inspect and verify information about road vehicles with a load capacity of over 13 tons circulating through Duong Bridge.

At the same time, coordinate with the police force, local authorities and functional forces to increase patrols, inspections and control of the load of freight vehicles passing through Duong bridge, prevent and handle administrative violations according to authority.

Previously, according to the management unit, on average, hundreds of trucks weighing tens of tons still tried to pass through every day. The road surface of Duong Bridge and expansion joints were destroyed by large trucks, the bridge often shook...

Duong Bridge crosses the Duong River, on the old National Highway 1, connecting Duc Giang ward, Long Bien district with Yen Vien town, Gia Lam district, Hanoi.

The bridge has three separate parts, including a railway in the middle and two roads on both sides for two-way traffic from the center of Hanoi to Bac Ninh and vice versa. Every day, trains still operate across this bridge. Road vehicles pass over the bridge and water vehicles pass under the bridge.

Currently, the Ministry of Transport is implementing the Project to upgrade the Duong River waterway transport route (Duong railway bridge) with a total estimated capital of nearly VND 1,900 billion, from the State budget in the medium-term public investment plan, period 2021 - 2025.

The project is being implemented because the current Duong bridge has limited clearance of only 2.8m; the width of the middle span is 26m, with a high risk of collision between ships and bridge pillars, potentially endangering traffic safety on waterways, roads, and railways.
