On the evening of July 15 (US time), US President Donald Trump and many leaders of the country's largest technology and energy companies announced a new investment worth more than 90 billion USD for private companies in Pennsylvania.
"Today's commitments are ensuring that the future will be designed, built and manufactured right here in Pennsylvania, right here in America," Trump said at the Pennsylvania Energy and Innovation Summit held at Carnegie Mellon University.
The event, organized by Republican Senator David McCormick of Pennsylvania, was attended by Trump administration officials and executives from leading technology and fossil fuel companies, including Amazon Web Services, Anthropic, Google, ExxonMobil and Westinghouse, according to the New York Times .
At the event, Blackstone announced it would invest $25 billion in new data centers and energy infrastructure, including natural gas power plants. Meanwhile, Google said it would invest another $25 billion in data centers and announced a separate $3 billion plan to upgrade two existing Pennsylvania hydroelectric dams to produce more electricity.
CoreWeave, an AI cloud company, said it will invest $6 billion in a massive data center near Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Winning the artificial intelligence race with China is a top priority, according to Trump administration officials. Several executives at the event said Pennsylvania is an attractive place to develop AI because of its cheap natural gas.
Jon Gray, chairman of Blackstone, said the company would consider partnering with utilities and developers to build data centers near new gas plants.
“What makes us so excited about this area is that you can put data centers next to power sources,” Gray said.
