Implementing the campaign to build a family of 5 no 3 clean, the Provincial Women's Union supports waste treatment bins for women in Phu Binh district. |
Spread from home to community
Launched in 2010, the Campaign to build a family of "5 no's, 3 clean's" was implemented by the Provincial Women's Union with clear criteria: "5 no's" including: No poverty, no violations of the law and social evils, no domestic violence, no children dropping out of school, no violations of population policy.
"3 clean" includes: Clean house, clean kitchen, clean alley. From seemingly simple criteria, the Movement has gradually entered the lives of women members, creating a clear shift in awareness and behavior change.
The family of Mrs. Ngo Thi Lac (in Duc Long hamlet, Khoi Ky commune, Dai Tu) is one of thousands of typical households responding to the Campaign. Her small house is always neat and clean inside and out, the kitchen is odor-free, and the garden is green. Although she does farming, raises chickens, and makes soy sauce as a side job, there is no dust or unpleasant odor in the family compound.
Ms. Lac shared: Since joining the Campaign, I have changed my living habits, learned how to classify waste, and kept my house and village streets clean. A clean and orderly life makes me feel happier and healthier.
This change is the result of the persistent advocacy of the local Women's Union, contributing to changing the thinking and working style of the people. To create sustainable spread, the Union at all levels has stepped up propaganda and directly reached each household to mobilize, guide, and accompany members to change their thinking and working style. The motto "Listen to women, speak for women to understand, act for women to follow" has become the guiding principle for the activities of the Union at all levels.
Participating in the Campaign, 100% of the grassroots associations built specific works and tasks such as: Flower routes, hygienic toilets, waste collection teams, livelihood models to support poor women... In particular, the models "3 clean houses", "Flower - green tree routes", "Garbage-free routes", "Going to the market with limited plastic bags", "Saving waste to raise funds to support women and children in difficulty" were replicated in many localities.
After 15 years of implementation, the whole province has nearly 50,000 households that have met the 8 criteria of the Campaign, 100% of communes that have met the advanced or model new rural standards have built typical family models...

Linked to livelihoods, sustainable development
Not only improving the quality of life, the Movement has also become a driving force to help women develop the economy and reduce poverty sustainably. The associations at all levels have supported tens of thousands of women to access preferential loans, provide guidance on business skills, start-ups, build clean tea production models, grow medicinal herbs, raise breeding cows, process agricultural products, etc.
Up to now, the total capital managed by the Association has reached nearly 3,500 billion VND, helping over 43,000 women borrow capital to develop production; 62,000 female workers have received vocational training.
Along with economic development, activities to improve the quality of spiritual life and build happy families have also been promoted. Models such as “Mock Trial”, “Listen to Your Child”, and Domestic Violence Prevention Clubs have been widely deployed. The “Godmother” program has connected 529 orphans with philanthropists, with a total support amount of more than 5 billion VND.
In the “3 clean” criteria, the province maintains thousands of environmental protection models. Of which, there are over 1,300 households classifying waste at source; 206km of flower roads; 20 safe agricultural product stores supported by associations at all levels to operate stably...
Notably, up to 4,290 households donated over 227,000m² of land (worth more than 35.2 billion VND) to expand rural roads.
Ms. Pham Thi Thu Thuy, President of the Provincial Women's Union, said: We will continue to innovate the content and methods of operation, promote digital transformation in the work of the union; at the same time, replicate the model of "5 no, 3 clean", develop green livelihoods so that the Campaign goes deeper and deeper, bringing practical benefits to members and the community.
The past 15 years have been a persistent journey of solidarity, effort and constant creativity of Thai Nguyen women. The campaign "Building a family of 5 no, 3 clean" has become a bright spot in the work of the Association, contributing to building a modern, sustainable and humane new countryside.
