One of the important issues discussed at the meeting was the airport closure time for upgrading and repair work.

Attending the meeting were comrades: Y Thanh Ha Nie Kdam, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of the XVth term of Lam Dong province; Nguyen Hoai Anh, alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Ho Van Muoi, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.
On the side of Vietnam Airports Corporation, there were Mr. Vu The Phiet, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airports Corporation and leaders of functional departments of the Corporation, and leaders of Lien Khuong International Airport.

Upgrading and expanding the airport is an urgent need .
Lien Khuong International Airport, an important transport infrastructure connecting Lam Dong with domestic and international provinces, is showing signs of overload.
In the first 6 months of 2025, Lien Khuong Airport served 989,543 passengers. By 2030, this number is expected to exceed 3.5 million passengers per year, with an average growth rate of 10%.
Upgrading and expansion are prerequisites to meet this growing demand, especially as the airport moves towards meeting international airport standards.

Mr. Vu The Phiet, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airports Corporation, emphasized that the airport is currently showing signs of deterioration and is in dire need of renovation and upgrading. He said that the Corporation has also prepared and plans to close for repairs and upgrading in the dry season this year, around November 2025, and will try to shorten the closure period.
After repair and upgrade, Lien Khuong International Airport will improve its operational capacity.

However, closing the airport for repairs and upgrades poses many challenges. Speaking about the planned closure of the airport in November 2025, Mr. Ho Van Muoi, Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, expressed concern about the negative impact on the province's economic development if the airport had to close at the present time.
“In 2025, Lam Dong aims for 8% growth, and the disruption of airport operations will cause great difficulties, especially when some key national highways in the province are being repaired and upgraded, which will affect the province's traffic and economic development,” the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized.

Comrade Nguyen Hoai Anh, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, also said that the closure of Lien Khuong airport for upgrading will cause many difficult impacts, causing the province to be very concerned. Therefore, the Vietnam Airports Corporation has reviewed and considered, if possible, to proceed with the upgrade and repair after the Lunar New Year. This is also a solution to support the province to overcome the current difficult period; at the same time, it also gives the unit time to prepare more carefully and thoroughly.
During this time, some investment-related contents can be implemented in advance before the official closure, to shorten the construction time and quickly return the airport to operation.
The Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee also suggested that regarding the issue of planning adjustment, Vietnam Airports Corporation needs to study and calculate a longer-term plan to ensure the sustainable development of Lien Khuong International Airport in the future.
Basically agreed to postpone airport closing time
In response to Lam Dong province's proposal to postpone the airport closure until 2026, when key transport projects connecting Lam Dong province have been completed and to minimize the impact on the province's socio-economic activities during the peak period at the end of the year, Mr. Vu The Phiet, Chairman of ACV's Board of Directors, shared and committed to finding solutions to continue maintaining the airport's operations until the end of 2025, expected to begin closing for repairs and upgrades in March 2026 and complete before the rainy season.
He also said that upgrading Lien Khuong International Airport is not only a solution to immediate problems but also an investment for the future. ACV plans to invest 3.7 trillion VND to build a new passenger terminal and other synchronous items, increasing the service capacity to more than 5 million passengers/year after 2030.

Concluding the meeting, Lam Dong Provincial Party Secretary Y Thanh Ha Nie Kdam requested the Vietnam Airports Corporation and the Provincial People's Committee to seek consensus on the closure time of Lien Khuong airport to ensure the smooth upgrading process, while minimizing negative impacts on the province's economic activities.
The Provincial Party Secretary emphasized that the terrain of Lam Dong and Da Lat is very different from other coastal plain provinces, and traffic connections are very difficult, so he requested the unit to pay attention to this issue.
Regarding the issue of adjusting the airport planning, the Provincial Party Secretary said he highly appreciated and acknowledged ACV's proposal to sponsor the hiring of consultants to review and adjust the planning of Lien Khuong International Airport until 2050.
The Provincial Party Secretary also directed the Provincial People's Committee to pay attention to directing the review and support ACV in finding mineral sources to serve the upgrading and renovation of Lien Khuong International Airport in the coming time.
