On July 11, savings interest rates at banks continued to remain stable, with a clear difference between the state-owned banking group (Big 4) and the private banking sector and digital banks. This is considered the right time for customers to consider medium and long-term savings options.
According to the survey, at the Big4 group including Vietcombank, BIDV, Agribank and VietinBank, the highest interest rate recorded was 4.9-5.0%/year for terms of 24 months or more when depositing online. In particular, VietinBank and BIDV both listed interest rates for terms of 12-18 months at 4.7%/year, while short terms of less than 6 months ranged from 1.6-2.0%/year.
In the group of joint stock commercial banks and digital banks, online savings interest rates continue to maintain a significantly higher level.
Some names such as HDBank , BVBank, VietBank, GPBank maintain interest rates from 6.0-6.1%/year for long terms from 18-60 months. VPBank has just adjusted slightly, applying 5.5-5.8%/year for terms from 24 months.
Notably, digital banks such as Cake by VPBank currently offer 6.0%/year for terms of 12 months or more, competing directly with traditional private banks.
According to financial experts, online savings are still the preferred choice because the interest rate is 0.1-0.5 percentage points higher than at the counter, and the procedures are flexible and easy to manage.
However, customers need to pay attention to the minimum balance conditions and maintenance period to enjoy the maximum interest rate.
With the current developments, it is forecasted that interest rates will continue to remain stable in the short term, while banks may make slight adjustments to compete for capital attraction at the end of the quarter.
Depositors should carefully consider the term and ability to use the money before choosing to deposit at a state-owned bank for safety, or a digital and private bank for better interest rates.
