Authorities confirmed that shipping operations in both directions will return to normal once the towage is completed. The towage was briefly delayed due to a failure of the ship's winch.

Sharing on Twitter, Leth Agencies said that the Xin Hai Tong 23 ran aground in the early morning.

The incident left several ships scheduled to pass through the strait on the morning of May 25 stuck behind. Meanwhile, data from the shipping tracking network Marine Traffic and Refinitiv showed that the Hong Kong-flagged ship lost control south of the canal.

The Xin Hai Tong 23 departed from the port of Dhuba in Saudi Arabia. The vessel is owned by Xiang B12 HK International Ship Lease and managed by Tosco Keymax International Ship Management.
