Expectations for commercial frog farming model

Phan Thiet City Agricultural Technical and Service Center (referred to as the Center) has organized the acceptance of the commercial frog farming model at Mr. Pham Tran Quoc's household (Xuan Phu village, Phong Nam commune).

The Center has proposed that Mr. Pham Tran Quoc's household implement a commercial frog farming model with a scale of 16,000 frogs, which has been carried out since March 2025. Mr. Quoc has enjoyed a 50% support policy for breeds and 40% for farming materials. During the farming process, Mr. Quoc has taken good care of the frogs, fed them adequately, and changed the water properly. Up to now, the frogs have eaten well and gained weight steadily, weighing from 3 to 5 frogs/kg, with a survival rate of 82%. Mr. Quoc has also been instructed by the Center to pay attention to changes in the weather, cover them from the sun to reduce shock to the frogs, and change the water regularly to keep the farming environment clean, which will help them grow quickly. According to the Center, the profit of the model is estimated at more than 39.5 million VND, which can help stabilize income and improve the lives of farming households.

Ms. Pham Thi Bich Thom - Director of the Center for Agricultural Technology and Services of Phan Thiet City said that this model is suitable for the local reality and natural conditions, helping farmers to transform the structure of livestock breeds with high productivity and meat quality. Currently, the demand for frog meat in the market is high, so farmers will boldly re-herd and increase economic efficiency. According to Ms. Thom, the locality needs to pay attention to supporting the good implementation of the model; continue to propagate and replicate the model for union members, members, and farmers in the area. For households raising livestock, it is necessary to regularly monitor the health of the frog herd, clean and change the water, arrange the pond to suit the weather at each time; depending on each stage of development, supplement appropriate foods and minerals.

This model is expected to diversify freshwater aquatic species in the city, helping farmers transform the structure of freshwater aquatic species with high meat quality, contributing to creating a new look for agricultural production in the city in general and Phong Nam commune in particular, thereby not only increasing income but also helping to balance the natural ecological environment.
