Do not let dengue fever outbreak

Dengue fever is a dangerous infectious disease caused by the Dengue virus, transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes. The disease often increases sharply in the summer and is at risk of becoming an epidemic if not controlled promptly. To prevent the epidemic, authorities at all levels, the health sector and people are synchronously implementing epidemic prevention and control measures.

According to the report of the Provincial Center for Disease Control, since the beginning of the year, the province has recorded 15 cases of dengue fever, a decrease of 4 cases compared to the same period in 2024. Of which, there are 6 imported cases and 9 cases from the province with 3 outbreaks in Yen Lac, Vinh Tuong, and Song Lo districts.

All cases have been cured, there have been no cases of severe dengue fever causing death or dangerous complications. After detecting outbreaks, the health sector has stepped up measures to isolate and handle outbreaks; promoted environmental sanitation among people, removed stagnant water containers around the house, used mosquito nets when sleeping, wore long-sleeved clothes and proactively sought medical attention when having suspected symptoms of the disease.

In Van Tien commune (Yen Lac), since the beginning of the year, the commune has recorded 1 case of dengue fever, a 52-year-old female patient in Yen Noi village. Doctor Nguyen Xuan Thuyet, Head of Van Tien commune Health Station, said: “Immediately after detecting the case, the health station staff coordinated with organizations and residential areas to mobilize people to spray insecticide at the household with the case and 20 surrounding households to treat the environment according to regulations of the Ministry of Health , and at the same time, notify the people about the case. The health station staff has stepped up communication work in many forms to raise people's awareness of disease prevention. The epidemic control work has been well maintained, and no new cases have been reported yet.”

Dr. Bui Van Hong, Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Provincial Center for Disease Control, said: “One of the reasons why dengue fever is at risk of spreading in the community is because people are subjective, negligent, and do not pay attention to eliminating mosquito breeding grounds and spraying insecticides regularly. At the same time, they do not fully understand the dangerous nature of the disease, so propaganda, monitoring and detection of outbreaks right from the grassroots level need to be carried out effectively.”

At the Provincial General Hospital, the work of preparing adequate medicine, equipment, and human resources to receive and treat patients with dengue fever and other dangerous infectious diseases is always focused on. The hospital has established a rapid response team ready to support lower-level hospitals when an epidemic breaks out. Doctors and nurses are regularly trained and updated on treatment regimens according to the Ministry of Health's guidelines to ensure effective treatment and minimize complications.

Along with proactive measures to detect cases right at the grassroots level, currently, at the VNVC Vinh Phuc Vaccination Center (Vinh Yen), there is Qdenga dengue fever vaccine imported from Japan licensed by the Ministry of Health. This vaccine is indicated for vaccination for children from 4 years old and up, including those who have had dengue fever with a vaccination regimen of 2 injections, each injection 3 months apart.

According to research, this is a vaccine that can protect the body from 4 serotypes of the dengue virus including Den - 1, Den - 2, Den - 3, Den - 4 with an effectiveness of reducing the risk of disease by over 80% and helping to prevent the risk of severe dengue fever with dangerous complications. Therefore, dengue vaccination is an effective solution recommended by medical experts to prevent the disease in high-risk areas and in residential areas where dengue fever outbreaks have been recorded.

To effectively prevent epidemics, localities and the health sector continue to promote the application of information technology in epidemic surveillance activities. Cases are regularly updated on the system to monitor the epidemic and inform people to raise awareness of epidemic prevention in the community.

Together with the health sector, the union members, youth and local organizations have stepped up the campaign to clean up the environment with the theme of Youth Month, “Volunteer Summer”, “Green Sunday”… to join hands to fight the epidemic.
