With a total investment of nearly 90 million USD, the expansion project has increased the capacity of Phu Bai Brewery by 50%, making it the brewery with the largest beer production capacity of Carlsberg Group in Asia and among the leading group of the Group in terms of operational efficiency.
The event was honored to receive congratulatory flower baskets from Government leaders.
The expanded factory not only helps meet the increasingly diverse needs of consumers, but also brings a rich product portfolio, from high-end international brands such as Carlsberg, 1664 Blanc, Tuborg, Somersby to familiar domestic brands such as Halida and Huda - brands that have been associated with the Central region for more than 35 years and are considered the "pride of the Central region".
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Andrew Khan - General Director of Carlsberg Vietnam said: “The Phu Bai Brewery expansion project clearly demonstrates our long-term commitment to Vietnam. This is currently Carlsberg's largest brewery in Asia, equipped with modern technology to create superior quality products, higher efficiency and minimize environmental impact. This is not just a story of expansion, but also an effort to better serve consumers, strengthen the supply chain and create sustainable values for the community”.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Phan Quy Phuong - Vice Chairman of Hue City People's Committee emphasized that Carlsberg Vietnam has long been a reliable partner in the development journey of Hue City and the Central region. The expansion of Phu Bai Brewery not only brings advanced production standards, but also demonstrates the company's strong commitment to environmental and social responsibility. We appreciate Carlsberg's contributions and look forward to continuing to accompany us in creating a prosperous and sustainable Central region.
Phu Bai Brewery expansion is designed according to the “future-ready” production model, applying modern packaging and brewing lines, saving up to 20% water and 15% energy, along with an intelligent management system to optimize performance and ensure safety.
In addition, the factory was redesigned to meet Carlsberg Group’s global Health & Safety standards with a pedestrian-only zone, ventilated packaging areas, upgraded canteens and an improved uniform management system. During the construction process, the project recorded more than 1.4 million safe working hours – a clear demonstration of Carlsberg Vietnam’s “safety first” culture.
Not only focusing on efficiency, the factory also continues to improve product quality. In 2024, Huda and Halida beers were awarded the Monde Selection Gold Award - a prestigious international award for quality, affirming the art of brewing premium beer and top production standards at Phu Bai.
“Vietnam plays a strategic role in Carlsberg’s global development direction, not only because of its market potential but also because of the strong support of the government, community and staff,” said Joy Rice, Vice President of Supply Chain, Carlsberg Asia. “The expanded Phu Bai Brewery is not just a brewery, but also a model for how Carlsberg grows with purpose, responsibility and creates sustainable value.”
The Phu Bai Brewery expansion project is also linked to Carlsberg's global strategy Together Towards ZERO and Beyond (TTZAB), and contributes to Vietnam's goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. The factory operates on internationally certified renewable energy sources I-REC combined with biomass energy, all wastewater is treated with advanced filtration technology.
In 2024, Phu Bai will achieve a water efficiency of 2.09 hl/hl, ranking among the top 10 most water-efficient facilities in Carlsberg Asia and among the most water-efficient in the Vietnamese beer industry. The factory aims to achieve 2.0 hl/hl by 2026, aiming for zero landfill waste by the end of 2025 and zero net emissions in production by 2028. Carlsberg Vietnam also commits to achieving 100% reusable or recyclable packaging for all products by 2026.
Mr. Andrew Khan - General Director of Carlsberg Vietnam affirmed: “Our mission is to accompany and develop with Vietnam. Success is not only measured by output or revenue, but also by sustainable values for people, the environment and the community that have been with us for over 30 years. This Phu Bai Brewery expansion project is not simply to increase production capacity, but also a journey with Vietnam towards a better future."
