Exploiting potential and developing forestry economy

Việt NamViệt Nam28/11/2024

In recent years, Tat Thang commune, Thanh Son district has had many solutions to promote the movement of planting, caring for, protecting, preventing and fighting forest fires (PCCCR). Thanks to that, effectively promoting forest land resources, greening bare land and hills, improving the ecological environment, gradually increasing people's income, creating momentum for the development of the forestry economy .

Exploiting potential and developing forestry economy

Thanh Son district forest rangers propagate to people of Tat Thang commune about forest care, protection, fire prevention and fighting.

The total forestry land area of the commune is about 800 hectares, mainly production forests. In 2024, the commune planted nearly 45 hectares of concentrated forests, reaching 180% of the plan and 180% compared to the same period, planting 8,000 scattered trees, reaching 100% of the plan. Identifying afforestation and developing the forest economy as one of the local potentials, in recent times, the commune government has stepped up propaganda and mobilized people to focus on forest development, introducing new, high-yield varieties for planting, and at the same time supporting trees, seedlings, and techniques for people to ensure good growth and development of crops. Along with propaganda and raising awareness of forest protection among people, the commune has established forest management and protection teams to monitor, manage, and protect forests, promptly handling violations.

The District Forest Protection Department proactively coordinates with departments, branches, residential area leaders, and community forest protection team leaders to disseminate information to forest owners and forest product processing establishments about forest management, protection, and development; disseminate and mobilize people to prevent and control forest fires according to the "4 on-site" motto. Local forest rangers regularly monitor changes in 5 levels of forest fire forecasting to promptly advise and disseminate information on forest fire prevention and control, and guide forest owners to properly implement regulations on post-harvest vegetation treatment for afforestation.

Zone 14 is one of the commune's areas with strengths in forestry economic development. The area has nearly 200 hectares of forest, mainly planted with acacia trees, in which some households have developed over 10 hectares of forest, bringing in hundreds of millions of VND in revenue each year. Mr. Dinh Duc Tho - a long-time forest planter shared: "Previously, people in the area were not very interested in forest development, because they did not realize the economic value of forests. Over the past ten years, when the locality promoted propaganda, implemented support projects, and provided technical guidance, people in the area have actively planted forests to replace fallow areas or low-value regenerated forests. Every year, several dozen hectares of forest in the area reach the age of exploitation, helping many households escape poverty sustainably or get rich. From forest planting, people in the area have also developed models of raising livestock, poultry, and growing fruit trees for a good income."

Comrade Dinh Quoc Toan - Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee said: "As a locality with a relatively large forest area, the commune determines to develop forestry in an effective and sustainable direction, contributing to increasing income for forest growers, making forestry economy a key economic sector, bringing high efficiency. Accordingly, the commune promotes the development of forestry economy associated with processing; deploys the movement of planting, protecting, renovating forests, exploiting and processing forest products; implements policies to encourage, support, care for, protect and develop forests. Along with the development of forestry economy, the commune encourages enterprises to invest in linking production with forest product processing".

In the coming time, Tat Thang commune will continue to implement many synchronous measures to raise awareness among people in the work of planting, protecting and caring for forests. People living near forests actively participate in planting, managing and protecting planted forests, contributing to achieving the "dual goal" of both improving the effectiveness of forest management and protection and creating livelihoods for people.
