Opening of Russian Film Week in Vietnam in 2025

On June 27, at the National Cinema Center (Hanoi), the Russian Film Week in Vietnam 2025 officially opened. The program took place from June 26-28, organized by the Department of Cinema (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam) in coordination with the Russian Federal Agency for Audiovisual Content (ROSKINO).

Attending the opening ceremony were Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Vietnam Gennady Stepanovich Bezdetko; Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong; leaders of the Cinema Department and a large audience.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong said that Russian cinema has long been familiar to Vietnamese audiences through works that emphasize humanistic elements and truly reflect social life. He affirmed that cooperation in the field of cinema is one of the effective forms to promote cultural exchange and expressed his hope that the two countries will have more cooperation programs in the future.

The Film Week introduces 5 Russian films produced from 2021-2025, in many genres such as: action, drama, history, documentary, romance, comedy. According to the Organizing Committee, some of the films have been screened and received awards at international film festivals. The theme of this year's Film Week is "Celebrating the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and Honoring Russian Cinema".

This is an activity within the framework of the Vietnam - Russia Cultural Cooperation Program for the period 2025-2027, signed during the visit to Vietnam by the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation in January 2025. The event also aims to implement the agreements reached during the visits of the two countries' senior leaders and towards the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam - Russia diplomatic relations.

In her welcome letter to the opening ceremony, Russian Culture Minister OB Lyubimova said that the two countries have had a tradition of cooperation in cinema since the middle of the last century with many joint projects in the fields of documentaries, animation and feature films. She expressed her hope that Russian films will receive a positive reception from Vietnamese audiences.

Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Bezdetko emphasized that cinema is one of the areas of cooperation that contributes to maintaining and developing relations between the two countries. He said that the Film Week is held at a time when the two countries have many important anniversary activities in 2025.

The film chosen to open the show is His name was not listed, directed by Korotaev SO in 2025. The film tells the story of a teenager's journey to adulthood during the war, with messages about courage, resilience and humanity. Director Korotaev shared that this is a film with a complex theme, reflecting the tragedy of war and the journey of overcoming human beings.

In addition, other films will also be introduced within the framework of the Film Week, including: Catherine the Great (2025), Fedya - the national football player (2024), The Wish of the Magic Fish (2023) and Devyataev (2021).
