Taking place in Hanoi and Ninh Binh, AYTF 2025 includes many well-designed activities, harmonizing contemporary and traditional art, theory and practice.
The highlight is the art residency program (AYTF Residency 2025) taking place from June 16 to 20, in Hanoi.
The program welcomes 24 young artists from 11 Asian countries such as Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Sri Lanka... along with guest artists to join in a series of diverse experiential activities.

Thinking About What We Do: Dialogues from Silent Practices
Artists participating in the program will have the opportunity to explore traditional Vietnamese arts through dance, singing, and performance in community cultural spaces; participate in workshops and discussions on creative practice and performance techniques; learn about local theatrical life; and at the same time, create and collaborate on cross-cultural theatrical projects.
One of the key objectives of the program is to build a network of young Asian artists, nurture creative leadership capacity, and create a platform for sustainable artistic and academic exchange in the region.
The official opening talk show of AYTF Residency 2025 is themed “The right to be human”. This is a forum for international artists to share their journey in building AYTF, affirm the spirit of theater associated with indigenous culture, and introduce the new look of AYTF this year.

Within the framework of the residency program, artist Nguyen Nhat Ly - founder of Phu Sa Lab will have a live talk with young artists about the journey of realizing the Seaphony orchestra project - a Southeast Asian indigenous instrumental orchestra, artistic experiments in Vietnam, and at the same time share the vision of a polyphonic, multi-tonal and multi-resonant Southeast Asian music .
Notably, Dan Do Lab will participate in the opening ceremony and orientation activities as an artist and storyteller through sound, creating a unique encounter between puppets, bamboo, Vietnamese indigenous culture and the spirit of international integration. In addition, the Dan Do Lab creative space in Hanoi is also the venue for a series of experimental music programs and specialized workshops.
One of the highlights of AYTF is the creative collaboration programs between young artists from many different countries. They will work together to create stage works with strong cross-cultural imprints. This is an opportunity for young Vietnamese artists to experiment with new forms of expression, breaking down linguistic and cultural boundaries, thereby creating works of art with a contemporary breath but still imbued with personal and national identity.
The performances within the framework of the program are the result of cross-cultural cooperation. Each performance has its own unique national color and is combined with new compositions created during the residency. In addition, in-depth discussions on the role of theater in community development and how to build sustainable and widespread art projects will also be held, creating opportunities for young Vietnamese artists to find long-term international partners and develop in-depth art projects in the future.

Initiated in 2016, AYTF was born with the goal of building a transnational young arts community, using the stage as a common language to connect stories, creativity and aspirations. More than simply organizing performance festivals, AYTF aims to comprehensively develop young artists, focusing on leadership skills, project organization ability, encouraging them to become creative leaders, positive agents of society through art.
After nearly a decade of being held in many countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, India, etc., AYTF has become a "cradle" for nurturing young artistic talents across the continent. This year, the program is jointly organized by To Lo Puppet Theatre (Vietnam), Buds Theatre (Singapore) and Direction Agency (Vietnam).
Vietnam’s hosting of the program for the first time marks an important step forward in the integration and development journey of young domestic stage artists; AYTF held in Vietnam also means that young domestic artists officially become part of the Asian Young Stage Network. The relationships formed during the program can open up opportunities for performance invitations, project collaborations or participation in art festivals in many countries in the future.
AYTF 2025 is not just about short-term workshops or art performances. The long-term and sustainable impact of the program is to promote innovation in artistic thinking, helping young Vietnamese artists step out of their “comfort zones” and experiment with new creative methods. Participating in AYTF is also an opportunity for traditional Vietnamese art forms to be introduced directly to international friends.
The closing performance will take place at Phu Sa Lab, Ninh Binh city. This is both a space for 24 young artists to sing their voices together, creating a symphony connecting through stage, music and regional solidarity, and at the same time, the most beautiful ending to a journey of exchange, creativity and development not only for young Vietnamese artists but also for the connection of the young Asian art community in the context of increasingly deep international integration.
