Houthi threatens to attack Israel if conflict in Gaza continues

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên12/02/2025

Yemen's Houthi forces say they are ready to attack Israel as it continues its campaign in Gaza and is not committed to a ceasefire agreement with Hamas.

Houthi leader Abdulmalik al-Houthi said on February 11: "We have continued and are ready to escalate immediately against Israel if they continue to escalate in the Gaza Strip." The move took place in the context of the increasingly fragile ceasefire and hostage exchange agreement between Hamas and Israel in Gaza, according to Reuters.

In response to the statement, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered the country's military to maintain the highest level of readiness in both Gaza and the country. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stressed on February 11 that the country would "return to the fierce battle until Hamas is completely defeated". The Israeli leader also said he had ordered the Israeli military to concentrate "inside and around the Gaza Strip".

Trump says Gaza is 'big real estate' to buy, Palestinians cannot return

Since November 2023, the Houthis have attacked ships across the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, claiming the attacks were a show of solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip after the conflict between Hamas and Israel.

Gaza's health authorities say 48,219 Palestinians have been killed, much of the infrastructure destroyed, much of the population displaced and hundreds of thousands pushed to the brink of humanitarian disaster in the Hamas-Israel conflict.

In another development, Egypt's Foreign Ministry said on February 11 that it plans to present a "comprehensive proposal" to rebuild Gaza while ensuring Palestinians remain on their land. According to Reuters, Egypt also said it wants to cooperate with US President Donald Trump to achieve comprehensive and just peace in the region.

The announcement comes as Mr Trump continues to push for a plan to take over the Gaza Strip and relocate its residents to neighboring countries such as Egypt and Jordan, both of which have voiced opposition to Mr Trump’s idea.

North Korea's state news agency KCNA on February 12 denounced Trump's proposal to take over Gaza as "absurd," stressing that the Palestinians' fragile hope for safety and peace was being dashed by the idea. "The world is now boiling like porridge over the shocking US announcement," KCNA said.
