Workshop "Ho Chi Minh City Armed Forces: 80 years of heroic tradition"

Attending the workshop were comrades: Nguyen Manh Cuong, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee; Major General, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Sau, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Institute of Defense Strategy and History; Colonel Nguyen Hong Canh, Deputy Director of Politics of Military Region 7... along with many generals and scientists.

In his opening speech and introduction to the workshop, comrade Tran Van Khuyen, Deputy Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, stated: After the achievements of the August Revolution in 1945, the people of the city lived in short-lived days of peace and then had to enter the fight against the French colonialists who returned to invade. With the spirit of "Independence or death", strictly following the directive of the Chairman of the Southern Administrative Committee Tran Van Giau, comrade Nguyen Luu, in charge of the Southern General Confederation of Labor, organized and established a worker-peasant armed force consisting of 360 union volunteer teams with 6,000 members.

On the night of September 4, 1945, the leaders of the union volunteer forces met at the headquarters of the Southern General Confederation of Labor to set up an altar to the Fatherland and take an oath. This was a historical milestone marking the birth of the present-day Ho Chi Minh City Armed Forces.

After 80 years of fighting, building and growing up, whether in war with rain of bombs and bullets, or in natural disasters, enemies, and dangers, the officers and soldiers of the city's armed forces are still single-minded, fighting side by side to bring a peaceful, prosperous and happy life to the people, worthy of the title of Uncle Ho's soldiers, "From the people, fighting for the people".

With great contributions and dedication in the two resistance wars as well as in the cause of building socialism and defending the Fatherland, the Saigon - Cho Lon - Gia Dinh - Ho Chi Minh City Armed Forces were honored to be awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the Party and State three times along with many noble awards; hundreds of collectives, cadres and soldiers became Heroes of the People's Armed Forces.

The workshop focused on clarifying the main contents, including: General issues on the process of formation, construction, fighting and growth of the Saigon - Cho Lon - Gia Dinh - Ho Chi Minh City Armed Forces; the contributions, achievements and feats of arms of the city's armed forces in the two resistance wars as well as in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, creating a heroic historical tradition; valuable lessons drawn from the process of building, fighting and growing of the city's armed forces; applying them to the cause of building a civilized, modern, and affectionate Ho Chi Minh City, firmly defending the Fatherland.

Colonel Nguyen Thanh Trung, Political Commissar of Ho Chi Minh City Command, delivered the closing speech at the workshop.

Closing the workshop, Colonel Nguyen Thanh Trung emphasized: The workshop's organizing committee received 84 articles, focusing on clarifying the role and absolute, direct leadership in all aspects of the Party over the city's armed forces; defining the correct revolutionary line to help the armed forces achieve many glorious feats, forever worthy of the title of heroic armed forces of the heroic city; affirming the unique military art associated with the formation and development process of the city's armed forces.

The presentations also highlighted the lesson of solidarity, self-reliance, self-strengthening, ingenuity, and unparalleled bravery of the city's armed forces; always relying on the people, being protected and sheltered by the people, closely attached to the people, and building a solid "people's hearts and minds position".

The scientific conference “80 years of Ho Chi Minh City Armed Forces, worthy of the heroic tradition” is one of the important activities towards the 80th anniversary of the Ho Chi Minh City Armed Forces Traditional Day, an opportunity to review the glorious historical tradition and pay tribute to the contributions, sacrifices, sweat and efforts of generations of cadres and soldiers of the city's armed forces. Thereby, contributing to the propaganda and education of patriotic traditions and revolutionary ideals for cadres, soldiers, people of all walks of life and especially the young generation, continuing the tradition of building Ho Chi Minh City to become increasingly prosperous.
