Private sources confirmed that painter Le Thiet Cuong passed away due to a serious illness at 6:55 p.m. at his home (39A Ly Quoc Su, Hanoi ). Mr. Cuong was considered one of the leading painters of the Renovation period.

Painter Le Thiet Cuong was born in 1962 in Hanoi. His father is the famous screenwriter and poet Le Nguyen, and his mother is the famous cameraman Do Phuong Thao.
From 1973 to 1980, Le Thiet Cuong attended high school in Hanoi but did not attend any formal art school. Then, from 1985 to 1990, he attended the Hanoi Film School, where he studied design for 2 years and animation for the last 3 years.
In 1987, he had a solo exhibition in Hanoi. He had consecutive solo exhibitions in 1991, 1992, and 1993 in Vietnam.
In 1995, Mr. Le Thiet Cuong had his first solo exhibition abroad. The exhibition was titled Quiet Road in Hong Kong and Singapore.
In 1997, Mr. Cuong participated in a group exhibition with the theme of Young Vietnamese Artists in Paris, France. In the same year, he participated in a group exhibition of Vietnamese Art after the opening period at the Meridia International Center, Washington DC, USA. Also in the same year, he had a solo exhibition Changing Vision at the Plum Blossoms Gallery in Hong Kong and Singapore.

In 1998, Mr. Cuong had an exhibition called Vietnam in the New Era at the Andy Jilien Gallery, Zurich, Switzerland.
In 1999, he had an exhibition Vision at Plum Blossoms Gallery, Hong Kong and Singapore.
During the years 2003-2006, he had exhibitions abroad almost every year, in Bangkok (Thailand), New York (USA), and Rome (Italy).
Paintings by artist Le Thiet Cuong are in the collections of the National Museum of Singapore, Deutsche Bank AG (Vietnam) and ABN Amro Bank (Singapore), as well as many other private collections.

Painter Le Thiet Cuong is a multi-talented person, working in many fields.
As a stage designer, he designed the stage for Tung Duong and Giang Trang's music shows, Vi Thuy Linh's poetry night...
As an interior designer, Mr. Cuong is particularly interested in and accomplished in chair designs. He even has a large collection of his chair designs. He also makes pottery, many with Buddhist messages.

As a book cover designer, he has drawn covers for the works of writer Nguyen Huy Thiep, researcher Hoang Ngoc Hien, writer Nguyen Quang Lap, researcher Van Gia, writer Nguyen Quynh Trang, critic Nguyen Thi Minh Thai, writer Nguyen Viet Ha, writer Trung Trung Dinh, poet Doan Ngoc Thu, writer Bui Ngoc Tan, writer Ta Duy Anh, poet Nguyen Quang Thieu... His book covers are beautifully drawn, solemn and based on his remarkable ability to read literary works. He is also close to many talented writers, poets, and critics.
With painting, Mr. Cuong has his own "business card" - as a minimalist painter. He also attached himself to and conveyed Buddhism in many of his works: both ceramics and paintings. Mr. Cuong established his style very early. Therefore, he is considered one of the leading painters, and also the top-selling painter of the Renovation period. His busy exhibition schedule during this period also shows that.
As well as art, Mr. Cuong is an enthusiastic curator, an observer and writer of hard-working, astute artists.

Despite his serious illness, painter Le Thiet Cuong stuck with his work throughout the last year of his life. During that time, he held an exhibition called “Other Sides” with two close friends, sculptor Dinh Cong Dat and writer Nguyen Viet Ha. There, all three “old town artists” told the story of Hanoi through ceramic and papier-mâché masks.
Also in this year, Mr. Cuong organized the Thiep ceramic exhibition, in which many artists created ceramics based on Nguyen Huy Thiep's literary inspiration.
Mr. Cuong's last book was also released not long ago - Conversations with Painting . This is a collection of his articles on fine arts over decades as an objective observer and a talented and dedicated curator.
