Fall 2025 still has the gentleness of many other peaceful Fall seasons, but this year is more special. (Photo: Thach Thao) |
It can be felt that Autumn 2025 is a historic Autumn. It still has the gentleness of many other peaceful Autumns, but this year is more special. The atmosphere is reminiscent of Autumn 1945 exactly 80 years ago, full of flags and flowers. Millions of Vietnamese hearts beat together, towards National Day September 2.
“The Fatherland is in the heart, peace is in every breath” - never before have values that seem invisible and colorless become so present, so close and so easy to touch! I see it in every person I meet, in every story I hear, in the eyes and smiles I see everywhere, every time.
“After so many years, there is finally a day of peace
Even though that peace has taken away the blood and bones of our people”…
The lyrics of the song “What is more beautiful”, inspired by the movie Red Rain , which was released nationwide these days, have taken away the emotions of generations Y and Z to love their Fatherland more, to love the two beautiful and sacred words “peace”.
In that common joy, we have another joy - celebrating the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Diplomatic Service, born in that historic Autumn (August 28, 1945 - August 28, 2025). Diplomacy has been present at every moment of the country throughout the past 8 decades, silently sowing hope and belief in victory, in the years of bombs and bullets or repeated peace and then innovation and integration... If anyone has watched Red Rain and cried with the emotions surging from the film, they will see that on the Paris negotiation table or the "fire pan" of Quang Tri Citadel , pain, resilience and majesty can all be felt to the millimeter.
Peace is beautiful! On the journey to preserve and cultivate that precious peace, from history to the present and towards the future, diplomacy is always present, playing an important part in every moment.
We are proud of the names engraved in history: Preliminary Agreement on March 6, 1946, Provisional Agreement on September 14, 1946, Geneva Agreement associated with the Dien Bien Phu victory, Paris Agreement with the strategy of "fighting while negotiating"...
Peace was restored, the country was unified, and diplomacy maintained that peace with its own mission, bringing Vietnam into the world, gradually "going out to sea". Vietnam became a member of major international multilateral organizations and forums such as the Non-Aligned Movement (1976), the United Nations (1977), ASEAN (1995); from a besieged and isolated country, Vietnam now has diplomatic relations with 194 countries, establishing a network of 38 countries with comprehensive partnerships or more, including all permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, all ASEAN countries, all G7 members, 18/20 G20 economies, and an active member of more than 70 international organizations; Vietnam has twice served as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (terms 2008-2009 and 2020-2021), twice as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council (terms 2014-2016 and 2023-2025), and participated in 6/7 key executive mechanisms of UNESCO...
Along with that are the great contributions of outstanding diplomats such as Pham Van Dong, Le Duc Tho, Nguyen Duy Trinh, Xuan Thuy, Nguyen Thi Binh, Nguyen Co Thach... who have become symbols of courage and intelligence of Vietnamese diplomacy.
I am impressed by the reflection of former Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Dinh Quy in a recent event when he said that “maintaining a peaceful environment for development” is the most important task of diplomacy, especially when the country is entering a new era. It is a very great mission, because having peace will have everything!
I think peace is beautiful! Peace today may be as natural as breathing, but peace does not come naturally. Each of us Vietnamese understands the price of peace. We are proud that Vietnamese diplomacy is a “sparkling” part of that proud peace.
The A80 spirit is seething throughout the country, the spirit of Vietnamese diplomacy is also burning fiercely in the hearts of every diplomatic officer these days, to love themselves, love their profession, love their country, love peace and "dedicate forever!".
