Strengthening Vietnam – Indonesia friendship

On August 26, the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations and the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam-Indonesia Friendship Association held a meeting to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Republic of Indonesia (August 17, 1945 - August 17, 2025).

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations, at the meeting, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam-Indonesia Friendship Association Mai Ba Hung sent his warmest congratulations to Mr. Adiguna Wijaya, Acting Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Ho Chi Minh City, and all Indonesian people, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Republic of Indonesia.

The President of the Vietnam-Indonesia Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City affirmed that Vietnam and Indonesia are two neighboring countries in Southeast Asia with many historical similarities, fighting together against colonialism.

According to Mr. Mai Ba Hung, on March 10, 2025, Vietnam and Indonesia agreed to upgrade their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and Vietnam is considered Indonesia's first Comprehensive Strategic Partner in ASEAN. This marks the entry of Vietnam - Indonesia relations into a new era, an era of deep and comprehensive cooperation for the benefit and peace of the people of the two countries, as well as of ASEAN.

In ASEAN, Indonesia is Vietnam's second largest trading partner, while Vietnam is Indonesia's fourth largest trading partner. In the first two months of 2025, bilateral trade turnover between Vietnam and Indonesia reached 2.65 billion USD. In recent years, many Vietnamese enterprises have invested in Indonesia. Moreover, the Vietnamese Government has launched a strategy to develop the Halal industry to further increase exports to Muslim markets and encourage Indonesian enterprises to increase investment in Vietnam. The two countries have set a bilateral trade target of 18 billion USD by 2028.

Chairman of the Vietnam-Indonesia Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City Mai Ba Hung highly appreciated the Indonesian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City for actively participating in and organizing many practical activities to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries; promote cultural and people-to-people connections, as well as economic and investment exchanges between Vietnam and Indonesia.

Speaking at the meeting, Acting Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Ho Chi Minh City Adiguna Wijaya reviewed the milestones in Indonesia-Vietnam relations.

Accordingly, since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1955, the two countries have worked together to achieve common goals in all aspects of international relations. Indonesia and Vietnam are good neighbors, close friends and reliable partners, not only in joint efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation but also to strengthen relations and cooperation among ASEAN member countries.

The Indonesian Acting Consul General said that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries creates a solid foundation for further expanding bilateral cooperation in new areas, for the progress of the people of both countries and the sustainable future of both countries.
