Support for eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses: 'Lightning speed' to finish ahead of schedule

After the merger, Thai Nguyen still has more than 1,000 households in the northern communes that are eligible for housing support under the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses but have not yet started construction. This is a large number, posing urgent requirements for progress and quality of implementation. However, with the active participation of the entire political system from the province to the grassroots, the northern communes have completed the target ahead of schedule.

The family of Ms. Linh Thi Nu in An Phat village, Thanh Mai commune is a household in particularly difficult circumstances. The family has only a mother and child, the mother often has to go far away to work, leaving the young child in the countryside. Previously, the mother and child lived with their grandmother in a temporary house that was seriously degraded. Thanks to the attention of the local government, along with the support of working days from officers, soldiers of the armed forces and people in the commune, a solid house was built.

Mrs. Nu’s story is just one of many good practices, specifically from the movement to support the elimination of temporary houses in Thanh Mai commune. In 2025, the commune implemented support for the elimination of temporary houses for 148 households. Of these, there were 116 poor and near-poor households (accounting for nearly 80%), 23 ethnic minority households and 9 households with meritorious services.

Support resources were mobilized from a variety of sources, including: Gratitude Fund; Veterans' Homes, along with contributions of labor and materials from local people and armed forces. Most households were able to build new solid houses (131 households), while only 17 households were repaired. To date, 100% of the works have been completed and put into use.

Mr. Mai Trung Tuyen, Vice Chairman of Thanh Mai Commune People's Committee, shared: With the cooperation of agencies and units, especially the support of working days and materials from the people and armed forces, the progress of implementation was completed ahead of schedule. The commune's goal is not only to support the removal of temporary houses, but also to improve the quality of life for the people.

According to the project approved in 2025, the communes in the North of Thai Nguyen have 4,979 households eligible for support to remove temporary houses, of which 4,176 households will build new houses and 803 households will repair houses. Before the merger (June 30, 2025), these communes started construction on 3,907/4,979 households, reaching more than 78% of the plan. After the merger, 1,072 households will continue to be implemented.

In order to complete the project ahead of schedule according to the plan of the province and the Central Government, many good and creative solutions have been implemented by the northern communes of the province, such as: mobilizing organizations, individuals, and armed forces to support the construction of houses for households with special difficulties and those without the ability to respond... Therefore, in less than 2 months of focusing on drastic implementation, the northern communes of the province have completed and reached the finish line ahead of schedule.

Assessing the results of the province's temporary and dilapidated house elimination program, comrade Dinh Quang Tuyen, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, said: Up to this point, Thai Nguyen has achieved and exceeded the target of supporting the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses ahead of schedule. This is the result of the drastic direction of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, along with the synchronous participation of the entire political system, in which the Fatherland Front Committee and socio-political organizations play a core role in mobilizing resources. The province has done a good job of reviewing and identifying the right subjects; organizing openly and transparently; strongly mobilizing the cooperation from the budget, the business community, philanthropists and the people themselves.

According to comrade Dinh Quang Tuyen, the lesson learned is to put the people's interests first, take the people's consensus as the driving force, and closely monitor so that every resource goes to the right place. These factors have created the "lightning speed" and success of Thai Nguyen in completing the support for eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the area ahead of schedule.
