On June 27, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hung, Acting Director of the Departmentof Education and Training of Binh Dinh province, confirmed that the Provincial People's Council had passed a resolution stipulating support policies for students of Nhon Chau island commune studying at vocational training institutions in the province.

According to the new resolution, students with permanent residence in Nhon Chau commune, studying at colleges, intermediate schools and other vocational training institutions in the province will receive support for living expenses, including food, accommodation and ferry travel.

Specifically, each student will be supported with 540,000 VND for food/month, 180,000 VND for housing/month and 200,000 VND for ferry/month.

The total estimated budget for this policy is more than 268 million VND, drawn from the Binh Dinh provincial budget.

The support period is calculated based on the actual study time of the full-course training program, but not exceeding 30 months for college level and 20 months for intermediate level.

Each student is only entitled to receive support once. In case the student drops out of school, the support policy will end from the time of confirmation by the vocational training institution.

This is not the first time Binh Dinh has had a special support policy for students in Nhon Chau island commune. Previously, in 2024, the Provincial People's Council also passed a resolution to support high school students in this commune.

According to the 2024 resolution, from the 2024-2025 school year, students residing in Nhon Chau who study at high schools in the province will be exempted from 100% of tuition fees. In addition, they will also receive support of 540,000 VND/month for food, 180,000 VND/month for rent, 150,000 VND/month for study expenses and 200,000 VND/month for ferry fare.

This regime is enjoyed monthly according to the actual study time (9 months/school year) and will also stop if the student drops out of school.

Nhon Chau is an important island commune in terms of national defense and security, about 25km from Quy Nhon city, with more than 600 households and 2,100 people.

Although there are primary and secondary schools, the island commune does not have a high school. This forces students to move to mainland Quy Nhon to continue their studies after completing grade 9.

Travel between the island and the mainland depends entirely on ferries and boats. Even the fastest means of transport, a canoe (mainly used for tourism ), takes 30-40 minutes, while other means of water transport can take hours, causing many difficulties for children's studies.
