Indonesia U23 is entering the final preparation stage before participating in the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, a tournament they will host from July 15-29.

Before the opening ceremony, head coach Gerald Vanenburg announced that the goal of U23 Indonesia is to win the championship.

He even said he would win all three tournaments that “Garuda Muda” will participate in from now until the end of the year.

“Our goal is to win all the matches ,” Mr. Vanenburg told the media attending the training session of U23 Indonesia at Nadya Stadium, Jakarta.

The Dutch coach confidently said that not only U23 Southeast Asia , but he also aims to win all 3 tournaments this year.

Vanenburg did not specify the three tournaments he mentioned. However, in addition to the Southeast Asian U23, the remaining tournaments are expected to be the 2026 Asian U23 qualifiers - taking place in September this year; and the 2025 SEA Games in December.

The former player who won the EURO 1988 championship with the Netherlands was very confident: "I never go to a tournament and think we will lose" .

“So, U23 Indonesia has 3 tournaments and we try to win all fronts. I think that is completely normal,” he concluded.

Vanenburg knows that achieving these three goals is not easy, but he wants to give it his all, declaring, “I never thought I would lose.”

“I want to win every tournament ,” he continued. “Of course, that is not always possible, but we will do our best to achieve the set goals.

I am never satisfied with second place, so neither is U23 Indonesia. For me, we did not join the tournament for that purpose. I want to win. This is the spirit we need . "

Host U23 Indonesia will play against U23 Brunei on July 15, with a high probability of winning all 3 points.

Group A also has strong opponents U23 Malaysia and U23 Philippines - teams that are expected to have naturalized players.

U23 Vietnam is currently the reigning cup holder, with a record of becoming the Southeast Asian youth football champion twice in a row.
