What did coach Mai Duc Chung say after the big win of the Vietnamese women's team?

VHO - The Vietnamese women's team won 7-0 against the Maldives women's team in the opening match of Group E of the 2026 Women's Asian Cup qualifiers. Speaking after the match, coach Mai Duc Chung acknowledged the team's efforts but also reminded his players to take better advantage of opportunities in upcoming matches.

Against a much weaker opponent, the Vietnamese women's team scored 6 goals in the first half thanks to Bich Thuy, Nguyen Thi Van, My Anh, Minh Chuyen and a double from Van Su.

In the second half, Hai Yen scored another goal to secure a 7-0 victory.

Speaking after the match, coach Mai Duc Chung said: “We wanted to create a really good match to show the serious preparation of the whole team. However, the players missed many opportunities, including a penalty.

In the second half, there were times when the team did not play really aggressively, maybe because they were somewhat satisfied with the result. I hope the whole team will continue to maintain their focus and try harder in the next matches."

Coach Mai Duc Chung also praised young striker Minh Chuyen and shared more about the reason Huynh Nhu was not in the starting lineup.

“This is Minh Chuyen’s first official match and she has shown clear progress, meeting professional requirements well. As for Huynh Nhu, I will temporarily let her rest for physical reasons, not for professional reasons,” said the head coach of the Vietnamese women’s team.

On the opponent's side, coach Mohamed Athif of the Maldives women's team highly appreciated Vietnam's performance and affirmed that his team tried very hard:

“We conceded six goals in the first half, but only conceded one more in the second half. It was a great effort from the players. Saving the penalty was a joy for them.

We came here to learn, and we are proud to dare to face a strong team like Vietnam - a team with the best class, speed and technique in Southeast Asia. For me, Vietnam is the most promising candidate in this group."

With 3 points, the Vietnamese women's team temporarily took the lead in Group E after the first round of matches because in the remaining match, UAE drew with Guam.

In the second match on July 2, the Vietnamese women's team will play an important match against the UAE women's team.
