The Vietnamese girls ended their qualifying journey with 3 wins, earning the right to participate in the 2026 Asian Cup Finals as group winners.
Speaking after the match, coach Mai Duc Chung was satisfied with his players' performance: "Guam has superior physique and fitness, but the Vietnamese women's team played cohesively, using small coordination instead of long balls, following tactics and scoring worthy goals.
I am very happy because the weather conditions were favorable, there was no rain at the stadium and the audience in Phu Tho cheered enthusiastically. Logistics and accommodation were also carefully prepared."
Qualifying also takes the “Diamond Girls” one step closer to realizing their goal of participating in the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.
Sharing about the road ahead, coach Mai Duc Chung emphasized: “Football always has surprises, but in our hearts we all have hope of participating in the World Cup.
I hope the players continue to make efforts, improve every day and make a breakthrough. In this qualifying round, the team has not been optimally prepared due to the short time frame.”
The 75-year-old strategist added: “If given more time, the Vietnamese women's team will hone their finishing skills better.
Some Ho Chi Minh City players gathered late because they were playing in the AFC Women's Champions League, while the U20 players could not attend because they were preparing for the Asian U20 Women's Qualifiers. Hopefully in the next gathering, we will have a more complete force and be better prepared."
With a perfect record in the qualifying round, the Vietnamese women's team officially entered the final round of the 2026 AFC Women's Asian Football Championship - the tournament that is also the second qualifying round of the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.
With the achievement of passing the qualifying round, representatives of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), Vice President Tran Anh Tu and General Secretary Nguyen Van Phu sent congratulations and praised the impressive achievement of the Vietnamese women's team when they won the right to enter the final round of the 2026 Asian Women's Football Championship with 3 wins and no goals conceded.
To encourage the team's spirit, VFF has decided to award 600 million VND, and hopes that coach Mai Duc Chung and his team will continue to maintain their form, aiming for important tasks this year and the upcoming finals.
