Defeating Thailand, Vietnam women's football team won the Southeast Asian bronze medal

VHO - The Vietnamese girls kept their promise to fans when they defeated Thailand 3-1 to win the bronze medal at the 2025 Southeast Asian Women's Football Championship.

Previously in the semi-finals, the Vietnamese women's team lost 1-2 to the Australian women's team, while the Thai women's team lost 1-2 to Myanmar.

Although it was only a bronze medal match, both teams were determined to win, especially the home team.

That's why coach Mai Duc Chung sent out his strongest squad to play all-out against the Thais.

The Thai women's team started the match better and caused a lot of trouble for the Vietnamese women's team's defense in the early stages of the match.

However, after 20 minutes of being somewhat disadvantaged, the home girls regained the initiative, attacked a lot and created scoring opportunities.

One of them was realized in the 45th minute. Starting from a long pass up top, striker Hai Yen calmly ran down to handle the ball and then unleashed an unstoppable shot, opening the score for the home team.

Right at the beginning of the second half, Thailand had two consecutive dangerous opportunities from narrow angles but they could not take advantage.

The Thais paid the price for wasting their chances. In the 65th minute, Huynh Nhu got down to receive a pass from Thai Thi Thao, then finished into the far corner. Although goalkeeper Pawarisa blocked the first shot, he could do nothing after Huynh Nhu's follow-up.

Leading by 3 goals, the Vietnamese women's team played quite leisurely. Meanwhile, Thailand tried hard to attack to find an equalizer.

The efforts of the "Golden Temple" team were rewarded with Wirunya's honorary goal in the 85th minute.

The Vietnamese girls ended the tournament with a convincing victory.

Defeating Thailand 3-1, the Vietnamese women's team won the bronze medal at the 2025 Southeast Asian Championship.

Although they could not reach the final, the third place achievement is still very encouraging for the whole team to better prepare for the goal at SEA Games 33 at the end of the year.
