Defeating Guam 4-0 in the final match of Group E of the 2026 AFC Women's Asian Cup qualifiers, the Vietnamese women's team ended the qualifying journey with three wins, winning the group and a ticket to the final round.

Speaking after the match, coach Mai Duc Chung was pleased with the team's performance: "Guam has superior physique and fitness, but my players played according to their tactical intentions, coordinated closely, limited long balls and deservedly won. Today's weather was favorable, the stadium did not rain, and the Phu Tho audience cheered enthusiastically. All logistics and accommodation were carefully prepared, I feel very happy."

Talking about the next stage, the veteran strategist did not hide his determination: "Football always has the element of surprise, but we all cherish the hope of participating in the 2027 World Cup. I hope the players continue to strive and improve every day."

Coach Mai Duc Chung emphasized: In this qualifying round, the team has not been optimally prepared due to the tight schedule. Some Ho Chi Minh City players arrived late because they were busy with the AFC Women's Champions League, while the U20 team could not attend due to preparations for the U20 Asian qualifiers. Hopefully, in the next training session, the team will have a more complete squad and be better prepared, especially improving their finishing ability.

The best player of the match Bich Thuy shared: "We played our best to achieve the goal of reaching the final round. Guam was not an easy opponent, but the whole team focused and showed fighting spirit to the end. This result gives us more motivation to aim for higher milestones."

On the other side of the battle line, Guam coach Kimberly Sherman expressed her respect for her opponent: “Vietnam is an experienced team and they showed it on the field. Despite the defeat, I am proud that my players did not lose heart and maintained their fighting spirit. We still lack experience and opportunities to compete, but this tournament helps the whole team learn and make significant progress."

With a perfect record in the qualifying round, the Vietnamese women's team officially entered the 2026 Asian Women's Championship Finals, which is also the second qualifying round of the 2027 Women's World Cup.

A new journey is opening, and the World Cup dream is once again lit.
