Henderson is about to return to the Premier League. |
The Daily Mail reports that Henderson has agreed a two-year contract with Brentford for an undisclosed fee. The 35-year-old midfielder will undergo a medical and complete paperwork this weekend, before joining his new club early next week.
Henderson had attracted interest from several European clubs when he left Ajax on a free transfer, but Brentford made a lucrative offer and won the race.
Brentford have undergone a major rebuilding period this summer, having lost captain Christian Norgaard (to Arsenal) and manager Thomas Frank (to Tottenham). Henderson is expected to fill the void left by Norgaard in midfield.
In the summer of 2025, Brentford could lose star striker Bryan Mbeumo, who has attracted strong interest from MU. Keith Andrews, the new Brentford manager, is planning to add personnel after continuously losing key players.
Henderson joined Ajax in January 2024 after terminating his contract with Al Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia. After nearly two seasons with the Dutch club, the former Liverpool captain made 57 appearances, scored one goal and left many marks in the dressing room.
With the 2026 World Cup less than a year away, maintaining his form at club level will determine Henderson's final chance to finish his international career on a high.
