Vietnam Airlines adjusts flight routes to avoid Iran-Israel conflict

Vietnam Airlines planes bound for Europe have rerouted their flights over Israeli and Iranian airspace.

In response to escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, Vietnam Airlines said it had proactively adjusted and redirected flights between Vietnam and Europe away from areas that could be affected before tensions in the Middle East flared up.

“This change will extend flight time between Vietnam and Europe and incur many operating costs for the airline, but for the safety of passengers and crew, it will be maintained until the tense situation ends,” said a representative of Vietnam Airlines.

The airline also recommends that passengers regularly update information on the official website www.vietnamairlines.com and via the Customer Care Center: ‎1900 1100.

Other airlines such as Vietjet Air, Bamboo Airways, and Vietravel Airlines do not currently operate flights to Europe, so they do not fly over Israeli and Iranian airspace.

Meanwhile, Flightradar24 data shows that many airline flights have been canceled or diverted from the airspace of Israel, Iran and Iraq since early morning on June 13 to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.

Flight tracking data also shows flights repeatedly diverted via Central Asia or Saudi Arabia.

It is known that the eastern region of Iraq bordering Iran is one of the busiest air corridors in the world , with dozens of flights between Europe and the Gulf as well as between Asia and Europe.

In the face of escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that Vietnamese citizens not travel to Israel and Iran unless absolutely necessary.

At present, Vietnamese citizens living, studying and working in Israel and Iran need to comply with regulations and instructions on security and safety measures of local authorities; regularly keep in touch and closely monitor warning information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Vietnamese representative agencies in Israel and Iran; and prepare plans to safely evacuate people and property to a third country or to Vietnam.
