Customs seized more than 29 kg of drugs transported by air

This afternoon, May 16, the General Department of Customs ( Ministry of Finance ) announced that, through information from the General Department of Customs and Hanoi City Police, the Noi Bai International Airport Customs Branch has consecutively discovered and arrested 3 cases of drug transportation by air with sophisticated concealment methods.

Customs discovered drugs sent from Vietnam to Japan, some hidden in skin cream boxes.

Specifically, in early May, from information from the Hanoi City Police, the Drug Control and Prevention Team (Hanoi City Customs Department) and the screening operations of the Noi Bai International Airport Customs Branch discovered that a shipment from the Netherlands to Vietnam had suspicious signs.

When inspecting the shipment, customs and police seized nearly 20 kg of drugs, including more than 14.6 kg of synthetic drug MDMA; nearly 5.3 kg of ketamine. All of these drugs were disguised by the subjects as beer cans.

On May 10, from the export goods warning information source of the Anti-smuggling Investigation Department (General Department of Customs) and Hanoi Customs Department, through screening express delivery goods, the Customs Branch of Noi Bai International Airport discovered a shipment of 4 packages exported to Japan with signs of suspected drug contamination.

When physically inspecting the goods, the authorities discovered and seized more than 1.37 kg of ketamine cleverly hidden at the bottom of skin cream boxes.

On May 11, from warning information from the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Department and the Hanoi Customs Department, the Noi Bai International Airport Customs Branch screened the shipment from the Czech Republic to Vietnam and discovered many suspicious signs.

When conducting a physical inspection of the unclaimed shipment of 3 packages, totaling 10 kg, the authorities discovered and seized more than 8 kg of MDMA. All of the evidence was hidden in mayonnaise boxes and mixed with other goods.

Accordingly, in the 3 cases mentioned above, the authorities discovered and seized more than 29 kg of various drugs and arrested a number of subjects. Through initial investigation, the subjects communicated with each other via social networks WhatsApp, Instagram, using many different accounts to hide personal information. In addition, these subjects divided the process of transporting goods into many stages, transported through many companies to monitor and cut off when there were abnormalities; hired recipients who did not know the contents of the goods such as Grab, technology taxi, etc.

According to the General Department of Customs, these three drug trafficking cases are being further investigated by Hanoi City Police.
