At around 11am on May 17, residents of Dien Hoa village, Nghia Dien commune, Tu Nghia district, Quang Ngai province discovered the body of a man floating on Bau Co river. They informed the authorities to bring the victim's body to shore.

At 4 p.m. the same day, local residents continued to discover the body of another male victim on this river section. Through verification, the two victims were Mr. Le Xuan Thuc, 34 years old, residing in Nghia Dien commune and Mr. Le Hoang Duc, 39 years old, residing in Nghia Lo ward, Quang Ngai city. The bodies of the victims have been returned to their families for funeral arrangements.
According to local residents, at noon on May 17, Nghia Dien Commune Police inspected a suspected gambling den in an acacia garden in Dien Hoa Village. When they saw the police, about a dozen people fled, some of them running towards Bau Co River.
At the scene, police seized many exhibits related to organizing cockfighting for money. Many people believe that these two victims may have been related to the group of people organizing the cockfighting who fled and drowned while swimming across the river.
The incident is being investigated and clarified by the authorities.
